Product Description

Product Description

The Golden Age Of Wireless was Dolby's first album, recorded using primarily borrowed studio time and featuring musicians paid with funds raised by session work with other artists. A while after completion, it was picked up by EMI for the UK and by an EMI partner in the US resulting in a number of variations before it's final release. This release has been restored to its original sequence, remastered and with the addition of a few peripheral songs and rarities along with the individual song notes, should help tell the complete story.

5.0 out of 5 stars White box or no white box, this is fantastic 14 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
Yes, it is a shame that the artwork has a great big intrusive white box on it, which basically tells German consumers that their uninterested kids won't be offended by the contents of the DVD. But this is so easily ignored, it was hardly worth all the negative reviews that seem to have been written entirely with that in mind.

This "Collectors Edition" is worth buying for three big reasons. First of all, you won't get a DVD of "Live Wireless" of this quality anywhere else. For Dolby fans, this truly is an iconic film, which previously had the most horrible sound quality on the only existing release on Laser Disc. This however restores the audio to how it should always have been. This alone would be worth spending the money on.

But don't forget too, the extreme rarities to be found here (Urban Tribal, Therapy/Growth and Sale Of The Century which only exist on THIS release). Beforehand there was little chance of coming across these on eBay, and no chance at all of them being in this digital quality.

Thirdly, for all you tech foamers out there, the sound quality on these remasters is fantastic and gives such crystal clear clarity, not something everybody is interested in, but a real plus for die-hard Dolby fans such as myself.

Add-in the free extras downloads for Thomas Dolby forum members and this is a brilliant edition of an already perfect album. Now...where's that postman with "The Flat Earth" remaster, I can't wait if this is anything to go by!

5.0 out of 5 stars Never judge a book by it's cover 13 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
I can understand the outrage by some fans over the artwork on this release, but let's be realistic here.

What is more important, the music or the album cover?

If this was just a cynical re-release with the same tracks as the original, then I may be more like minded. This though is a different kettle of fish. Over 50% of the tracks are new to this release and "collectors" should be more interested in this fact. Don't get me wrong, the full artwork, especially when viewed on my original LP release from back in the day is great, But it's not why I bought the album the first time around.

If you had this release in the 80's and it has since slipped through your collection, then this has to be the perfect reason to buy it again.
If you are new to or rather unaquainted with the music of Mr Dolby, then do yourself a favour and buy this. I am sure that you too will come to consider that this is a 5 star collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent CD/DVD set 14 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
Remastered
Expanded
Live Wireless available on DVD for the first time
Another 9 free tracks available via download from Thomas Dolby's site (4 to go with "The Golden Age" & 5 for "The Flat Earth")

How can this not be a 5 Star release?

Seriously folks, stop examining the cover of the case and go listen to the music, then watch the DVD or go and download the other 9 tracks for free.
