Format:Audio CD
This disc presents some interesting works; unfortunately the performance is often messy, the words hard to distinguish, and the tone frequently unpleasant. Bearing in mind that the boys are the weakest link at Christ Church Cathedral, it's surprising that someone somewhere decided they should make a disc of their own. There are some truly dire moments - such as the scrappy ensemble of "This Little Babe" - and altogether the boys make such a scratchy, unblended sound that it's impossible to get much enjoyment here. At least they sound like they're having fun in the "Children's Crusade". A recording to buy out of curiosity for the unusual repertoire, rather than the beauty of the musical performance.

This CD is wonderful, if you like Britten then its got the best pieces for boys voices on it. The Golden Vanity is a dramatic piece where the Cabin Boy is betrayed, full of passion.
It also has possibly the only recording of Britten's, The Childrens Crusade which is a very heart breaking story of Children in Poland after the German invasion. The music is slightly different to the usual Britten but it is none the less a wonderful piece. This CD is altogether brilliant and well worth buying to listen to. The singing is superb and a lot of effort has gone into making it.

The only good thing about this recording is the harpist. And possibly the organist. The boys sound raucous and out of tune. For the Ceremony of Carols try just about any other recording. The same for the golden Vanity to be honest.
