The peth are the greatest rock n roll band out there! If the super furry animals are the beatles, then these guys are the rolling stones and this is their exile on main street. The brains behind this rock n roll masterpiece is super furry dafydd ieuan and gruff rhys can only envy at his bandmate's side project, since his own have been geeky and lo-fi, electro-folk efforts, playing auditoriums and quasi-religious venues in cult-like atmospheres, where the audience behave as if they're listening to the maharishi. The peth however, take their 10-strong band - fronted in a bona fide manner by rhys ifans - out to the remotest of wales and turn places upside down -swigging champagne by the magnum and churning out raucous but also sometimes, very beautiful rock n roll. They've got something of a primal scream attitude running through them which is a totally positive comparison. This album is not to be missed; although i've got the feeling that it will be somehow, but recognised in time as a classic - just like exile on main street.
