Ceredwen's second album builds on their first (O'r Mabinogi) in much the same style world-folk-Celtic fusion with a modern twist. Again the haunting melodies and Welsh lyrics are there, the same mix of multi-tracked voices, electronic and traditional folk instruments delivering performances full of colour, interest and meaning. The theme of this album is the time of the Roman invasion of Britain, when Boudicca tried to preserve her power against the might of the Roman empire, and the Druidic tales of the era.
Again the Welsh lyrics shouldn't put people off, they are translated in the comprehensive sleeve notes but in any case just add to the haunting, mysterious air - I'm not sure if any of Ceredwen's music would work with English lyrics as they are dealing with quite deep Welsh traditional stories, legends and myths.
This album will appeal to a wide range of those with broad minded musical tastes - folk, ambient, world, fusion, crossover, all these labels could apply to Ceredwen.
