Product Description

Product Description

A divine emissary bearing the promise of peace for all mankind has appeared on Earth in the form of a small child. The forces of evil are naturally quite keen to put an end to this and send their representative Sardo Numspa (Charles Dance) to kidnap the mystic youngster. Some wise Oriental elders then decide that their best chance of getting the child back again is to seek help from Chandler Jarrell (Eddie Murphy), a Los Angeles social worker who specialises in tracking down missing children. Chandler agrees, mainly because he wants to seduce the beautiful Tibetan messenger Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis), and soon finds himself involved in all manner of supernatural hijinks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic 80's flick 15 Jun 2012

Classic 80's flick, with Eddie Murphy doing what he does best I would say this is on par with the Beverly Hills Cop movies and definitely worth a watch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eddie Murphy at his best! 30 Dec 2003
Format:DVD
One great comedy indeed! Eddie Murphy is hilarious as usual, when he plays Chandler Jarrel (or "Yarrell"), Charles Dance is perfect as Sardo Numspa (or "Brother Numsy") ;-) , the girl is beautiful and even the Tibetanian kid who plays the Golden Child does a great job.
If you're looking for a great laugh combined with a touch of magic and fairy tale, as well as an exciting thriller, then this is the film you're looking for! As a bonus the film takes you on a trip to Nepal which isn't something you see every day.
Eddie Murphy's done a whole bunch of awesome comedies, and this is definitely one of them!

3.0 out of 5 stars A dancing Pepsi can.... 15 Jan 2014
Format:DVD
Tibet, a young boy with mystical abilities, demonstrates his power by reviving a dead bird, which is to become a constant companion.

However, a band of villains break into the hidden temple and takes the boy away. Some time afterwards, a young woman named Kee Nang watches a TV show in which Chandler Jarrell, a social worker looking for a missing child.

She tells him that he is the chosen one, destined to save the child, and be the Saviour of all mankind.

But Jarrell disbelieves the mysticism, but finds more and more evidence of demon worship as he starts investigating.....

This was one of Murphys last films where he was classed untouchable. Every film he starred in before this was box office gold, and this film is basically Axel Foley in a silly hat. and it works for the most part, until you relate it to Big Trouble In Little China.

The film goes down the same route as that one, melding Indiana Jines adventure, with constant homages to Asian movies of yesteryear.

Murphy is as good as always, funny and with bags of improv, but the film has dated badly, and doesn't seem as good as when first saw in the late eighties.

But it's all flashily made, another showcase for the star, which gets a little lost whenever he is not on screen, and quite a dark film for younger viewers.

It's still watchable fluff though, but I feel if this were remade today, with another star, it wouldn't have the oomph factor it did back in the day.
