An excellent baking book.
On the practical front, measurements are given both in cups (US units) and in grams, which makes recipes easy to follow, whatever system you wish to use.
All recipes are clearly explained and mouthwateringly photographed, making the book a real joy to flick through if you are trying to find inspiration as to what to bake.
There are over 300 recipes to choose from, classified in the following chapters:
-Cookies, bars and brownies
-Small cakes
-Butter cakes
-Layer cakes
-Pies and tarts
-Pastries
-Yeast cakes
-Savouries
No anecdotes to explain the origin or story behind the cakes and bakes, so the book is not a "good read" as such but it is an inspiring reference which I would definitely recommend...

Move over Goldfinger. Not only is this book wrapped with a golden band, the edges of the pages are also gold. This gives a luxurious touch. Inside there are such sumptuous and tempting cakes - your waist-line will not stand a chance. Never mind putting on the pounds - think of the satisfaction of mouthfuls of treats. Over 300 recipes in sections such as yeast cakes, layer cakes, small cakes and so on. Every taste has been catered for - all that remains is for you to bake them and watch them disappear like magic. This review first appeared on Karen Platt's book review website.

Yummy yum yum! 4 Dec. 2009
By Celise - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Every page in this book has a picture of something to make you drool. The only difficulty is deciding which recipe to try first. I'm starting with the white chocolate/raspberry muffins!

If you like to bake this belongs in your library. It contains the traditional things like carrot cake and scones, but the real beauty of this book is all the more unusual recipes that you don't see just anywhere, like the plum and amaretti crunch tart or the passion fruit cupcakes.

Beautiful book 9 Jan. 2010
By Kathleen Elder - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
My 13 year old granddaughter picked this book for a Christmas gift. She has been inspired to learn how to bake from watching TV cooking shows and can really make things that look like the picture. She liked the format of one large color photo next to one recipe on a page. The price on Amazon was way below the book store and I bought all my books on line so I wouldn't have to carry them when shopping. They are very heavy.

I first checked this book out at the library. This book had so many fabulous easy recipes, I had to buy it. A picture of every recipe, now that is a BONUS!

Pure indulgence and gorgeous too 12 Dec. 2009
By Lynn Harnett - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
For bakers who like to feast their eyes, this latest in Barrons' Golden Books series features more than 300 full-page color pictures to accompany 300 traditional and modern recipes.

A handsome, chunky book with gilt-edged pages and a ribbon place mark, its focus is on desserts, with a last chapter devoted to savories like Mini Leek and Potato Strudels or Spinach and Feta Muffins.

There are four chapters devoted to cakes, including yeast cakes like Kulich (Russian fruit cake) and Tuscan Harvest Bread. Pies, pastries, and cookies cover the rest.

Each recipe includes prep and cooking time and a 1 to 3 scale of difficulty, with most falling into the easier categories: Basic Pound Cake, 1, Cherry Almond Strudel, 2, Bavarian Apple Cones, 3.

From plain and simple to extravagant, this book covers the gamut and the exquisite photos provide inspiration.
