"The Globalization of World Politics is superb. The volume has a succinct and lucid style, but also manages to cover a whole range of schools of thought and policy issues. International Relations is never easy, especially for new undergraduates who are beginning their journey in the field. This item makes the study of IR accessable - dare I say enjoyable - for new students. Up to date, pertinent to new developments in theory and practice, this textbook will be a godsend for new students, and an essential reference guide for more experienced students and scholars.

Adequate 7 Mar 2012

This book is OK but over-simplistic in places and strangely patronising than others. For example, is [...] this diagram really necessary to explain a really basic concept? Also the price is a bit much, and buying second-hand is likely to make it a better-value purpose.

Format:Paperback
For anyone studying International Relations at university I highly recommend this textbook. It reviews all of the major theoretical approaches (Realism, liberalism, neo-realism, neo-liberalism, social constructivism, Marxism etc.) but is also more up to date on recent theoretical developments and allows more room for alternative or dissident views (poststructuralism, postmodernism, critical theory, feminist perspectives, etc). It has a huge range of chapters on contemporary issues and is well structured to make digestion of the information easier (division into appropriate sub-tops, recall boxes, case study boxes and so on). Its only weakness is that it tends to oversimplify certain concepts and ideas but that is a charge that could probably be levelled at most undergraduate textbooks.
