5.0 out of 5 stars A nice, helpful book for cycling novices like me! 24 Aug. 2014
By Sabrina
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I have just started cycling (having never learned) and it’s my goal to be cycling to college (7.1 miles according to Maps on my Macbook) by the end of the course at least (I’m about to start my last year).

This book is great for me because it explains the basics of bicycles and covers how to dress nicely and practically for cycling. I don’t want to go to college looking like a racer, especially as I’m a fashion student. Fortunately, last year I made a horse-riding jacket for one of my projects, and it’s great for cycling too (when it’s quite cool out). This book should also give me some ideas for designing cycling clothes and accessories, which I might make into projects for my blog and sewing patterns to sell on Craftsy in the future.

This book also works as a readable catalogue for me in that I can find and consider carefully the things I want (and need) for cycling while reading helpful information instead of sizes and prices. I like looking at the pictures too; it’s like a blog in a book!

While the book doesn’t teach one how to ride a bike (but the Internet helps there), it does teach things like how to clean and maintain your bike, and tells me the right names for things so I won’t sound like an ignoramus when I go to the bike shop.

It’s a very good book for explaining the things I need to know. It doesn’t replace the Highway code, but it’s not meant too (although there is a helpful illustration showing how to handle roundabouts). The illustrations are clear, so I know what types of brakes I have for instance. All in all, I’m glad I have it. 😊

5.0 out of 5 stars godsend! 11 July 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
As a commuting cyclist with a child I found this book a godsend. So many useful tips and advice and lots of great interviews with various cool cycling ladies. Gorgeous pictures too. Highly recommended if you're just getting into cycling.

An easy read written in a style which entices you to read more. It's good to hear a view of cycling as a woman and whilst I prefer to cycle in shorts or trousers it's good to hear feminity being promoted. What it did for me was to encourage me to get back on my bike and consider doing a manageable ride twice a week. I've done two long rides alone in the past and find the challenge envigorating but had lost momentum having recently moved so thanks Caz I'm back in the saddle!

5.0 out of 5 stars I would recommend a read 16 July 2014
I never thought of the bicycle as a vehicle for womens freedom. A really refreshing view of womens relationship with cycling and how much it helped change womens lives. I would recommend a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Perfect Present 19 July 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Having given this book to three of the women in my life I can only praise it as the perfect birthday/Christmas present for both the budding and experienced cyclist. Clear and concise, well illustrated and with a common sense approach it is excellent value for money. Indeed most of the more practical advice is relevant for both sexes and answers all those questions which apply to anyone contemplating two wheels for commuting, exercise, shopping or just sheer pleasure
