5.0 out of 5 stars Great leaps 10 Dec 2011
I got this because I really enjoyed the DVD of 'the girl who leapt through time'.This is nothing like that but is great nonetheless. The animation is absolutely brilliant and the colours are vivid and bright,a visual feast. It has a schoolgirl theme,a space pirates theme, great spaceships (QT flyers) and is extremely funny. There are some quite unexpected scenes, that to my knowledge, are unique and made me stop the disc and re-watch because they are so good. The subtitles in English are good and the whole concept is fast paced.I sometimes had to pause the disc to completely read all the words becuase I didn't want to miss anything as the dialogue does matter. There is one scene about some slightly incompetent space security guards that require their superiors to let them know that if they fail AGAIN,they will loose their jobs but the discription is of candles that will be blown out and it's just sooo funny. It's all set in the future and allows for some good plots and even some references to space travel as we know it today.I rate this as an excellent series and have re-watched it.It centers around a derelict giant spaceship that once supported a colony and the very entertaining recovery of missing parts to get the ship operational. The characters are good and their names great. There's 'Spud' or 'Tuber head' and 'Dead leaves'( which of course is the name of another animated film) but the way in which these names are given really does show the amazing sense of humour of the creators.Highly recommended for laugh out loud entertainment,it's really nicely done, has some very cute moments with loads of detail.Ever thought about biscuits in space? Check it out!The outro is reminiscent of Summer wars, ultra cute.
