Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The Girl Who Knew by Sandra Glover is a brilliant combination of tightly plotted thriller, the supernatural and the everyday. Kits has been paralysed in a hit and run accident but her friend Lisa who was with her at the time can remember nothing of how it happened. While Kits finds herself in the peculiar situation of being unable to walk yet able to dream future events and sense her friends' and family's emotions with excruciating clarity, Lisa is frustrated by her amnesia and haunted by her home life, past and present. Glover's style is down to earth, so that the "supernatural" ability of Kits to perhaps predict the future or at least sense others' predicaments, is simultaneously accepted as not out of the ordinary and dismissed as the imaginings of a traumatised accident victim. Lisa's experiences with her mother and stepfather form a background of all-too-real modern life that gradually becomes more sinister, providing the momentum for the thriller-like plot. The Girl Who Knew explores teenage emotions without sacrificing the tension of the story and, combined with Glover's strong characters (from Kits' brothers to Lisa's stepfather), ensure the real and unreal is satisfyingly tackled. Ages 10 and over. --Olivia Dickinson

The Girl Who Knew is a sci-fi, which brings the reader to an ordinary girl, with an easy to relate to family. When she is involved in a car accident, the character of the protective brother Lewis, and the guilty friend Lisa, shine through. The strain which it causes on the family when Kit talks about the powers she has developed, becomes obvious. This is a good read, with an interesting theme that makes it all the more exciting. If you like this book, another which may interest you is Twins by Caroline B. Cooney.
