A one star from me too I'm afraid. No need for me to expand on the 'plot' as that has all been covered by other reviews and the story synopsis. I would have been upset if I had paid for it, even a nominal amount. In fairness I think the author was trying to be humourous, but sadly, failed miserably. Yes, it is a short story and these are always handy to have, but those found in most magazines are generally much better. I think the main problem was that I was waiting for the unexpected as indicated in the 'blurb', but it just turned out to be what I suspect the reader knew all along, and fizzled out rather than ending as such.
If it was an attempt to encourage you to read the extract from her novel with a view to buy, that too failed as far as I was concerned as I didn't bother to read any further. I quickly moved on to something else. It was quite poorly written in general. In addition, anyone who uses "off of" and "walked passed" shouldn't be writing in my opinion, to me it's an instant turn off. There was an upside though. This free sample ensured I wouldn't be wasting money buying any of this author's work in future.
