Personally I do admire the illustration's depth and use of colour which is mystical and almost magical. However, it is somehow too 'dark' to my little daughters. I guess it really depends on the preference styles of the reader. I would imagine for quite and pensive and more creative readers this book would be a great choice to encourage the creativity and imagination. If the reader is bubbly, jolly and quite 'Barbie' style, this book may not appeal to them. My daughters find the museum in the book is a bit dark and 'scary'. What a shame.

The artwork in this book is absolutely beautiful, but sadly the story text was far too young for the 6 year old it was intended for. I didn't find it at all dark and scary like other reviews, in fact, there is a lovely touch at the end where readers can add their own photo to keep the girl in the castle company. I thought about keeping it for myself, but sadly am returning it. I would recommend this as a read together for 4 year olds.
