Through his work in Thin Lizzy, Ultravox and of course Band Aid, Midge Ure became a household name in the UK. So, when he launched his solo career it was to immediate success with the No 1 hit single "If I Was", taken from the similarly successful No 2 debut album The Gift.

This edition is a brand new digital remaster of the album, complete with a bonus disc containing 15 bonus tracks, alternate mixes and live tracks (three of which are previously unreleased).

Midge Ure's first solo album, The Gift was first released in 1985. A real mix of Keyboard work and roaring guitars, The Gift shows Midge at his musical roots. Key tracks to look out for are his number one hit "If I Was" alongside other classics such as: "That Certain smile" and "Wastelands". Not so well known is the orchestral extraviganza "The Gift" a song I would dearly love to use as my epitaph! The only fault I can find with The Gift is that it doesn't last long enough! Although the gift may not be everyone's cup of tea it is an absolutely essential buy for anyone who likes 80's music!

I still remember the moment I first heard 'If I Was' way back........one of my all time favourite songs and often played on a loop. Other gems on this album include 'That Certain Smile' and 'She Cried'. I much prefer Midge's version of 'Living in the past' to the original and there is Midge's version of 'Man who sold the world'. Bowie was good but Midge is absolutely brilliant!
All in all it's an excellent solo album....the start of a solo career that has given us some outstanding albums from Mr Ure.....hopefully with more to come!

recieved in excellent condition,brilliant reminder of midge ure at his best and an added bonus of extended and remixed versions of his greatest songs
