Product Description

Three single women in their thirties spend a summer ghost hunting whilst also trying to sort out their chaotic personal lives.

Linda, Karen and Anna have been friends for years. Linda is the teacher who has put her love life on hold for the sake of her career, Karen is the martial artist who now runs a successful business and Anna is the newly made single mum whose husband has left her for a younger model. After a frustrating evening at a speed-dating event, the three friends decide to do something different with their summer as they plan a weekend away to Whitby to search for the supernatural and have a few drinks and laughs on the way. Thus starts a summer of ghostly-themed mini breaks where they hunt for spooks, meet a whole bunch of weirdoes and encounter spirits, mostly from a bottle!

As each of the women must deal with their own disastrous private lives and with all of the fun and frustrations that offers, will they ever see a dead real, dead as a doornail, dead and buried ghost?

From the author of the time-travelling short story Two Penny Blue and the chilling ghost story The Listening Post, comes a 92,000 word supernatural comedy novel that will make you laugh and look over your shoulder...

This is the second edition 24/02/13

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great story 9 Dec 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Having read L K Jay's short Stories, Two Penny Blue and The Listening Post, I'm already very comfortable with her writing style. She introduces characters well, gives you a good grounding in their life and sucks you into the story, and this story's no different.

Closely following the lives of 3 young women fast approaching middle age, each chapter focusses on one of the characters at a time, keeping you directed at that characters life for a while before going back to one of the others.

Overall I found the story very entertaining, engrossing (had to force myself to stop reading so I could actually get some sleep!) and well written.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your average Chick-Lit read 6 Jan 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Written with a breezy style which thoroughly entertains this romantic slice of life from three women's point of view comes with an added twist. Demoralised by the singles scene, the pals give up on ever finding Mr. Right and devote theirselves to tracking down spirits and things that go bump in the night. The storyline follows each of the three characters in turn, and they lead very different life styles which resonate well, having various adventures when they meet up in their quest to discover if there really is anything else `out there'. Of course it is when you least expected it that you find what you're looking for and the three amigos discover that sometimes somethings can be closer than you imagine, and sometimes your heart's desire is right there in your back garden.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 11 Nov 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book as a freebie but would have been more than happy to pay for it. The books cover is deceiving and doesn't make it look like the chic-lit that it really is. The story is based around 3 female friends and their love lives and the ghost-hunting is something they do on the odd weekend. Don't expect to get chills from reading this book as its not in the slightest bit spooky. I really got into this book and found it hard to put down and may have to look at what else this author has to offer.

LK Jay's 'The Ghosthunters Club' was one of my summer reads this year, and I'm very glad that I found it. Creepy cover notwithstanding, this is a surprisingly light and funny novel that follows the adventures and misadventures of three thirty-something friends, Linda, Anna and Karen, as they take up the challenge of tracking down ghosts as a distraction from their ill-starred love lives.

From the first page, when the three women endure a less-than-successful speed-dating evening, we're drawn deeply into their lives. The characters are vividly-drawn: sarcastic, smart Linda, the demoralized Anna, and Karen, who, despite running a successful business and being a martial arts master to boot, is plagued by insecurities. I'd defy any woman who's ever been exposed to the less attractive side of male behaviour - and that's most of us - not to identify with these occasionally poignant but ultimately resilient characters; they get knocked down, but they always pick themselves up again. Their camaraderie is also an uplifting depiction of female friendship at its best: men come and go, but the women's loyalty to each other is strong and unwavering. If you're a woman who has been dealt a rough hand in the romantic stakes and needs cheering up, this is the book for you.

The action intensifies as the girls start looking for evidence of the spirit world. The spirits are unfortunately rather unforthcoming, but the ghosthunting experience turns out to be remarkably entertaining. LK Jay pokes gentle fun at the bad behaviour of many of the male characters, and yet there's no real acrimony here: we hope, along with the three friends, that somewhere out there they'll find their Prince Charmings.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope there's going to be a sequel ... 16 July 2012
By Kathy S
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed everything about this book. The characters are well-rounded and believable, and the three main characters so likeable that I want to know what happens to them next. The plot was clever and entertaining - some parts made me laugh aloud while others caused me a thrill of excitement.
There was a lot that I could relate to, being a mother and a teacher, and the wry wit with which events were delivered showed how the writer observes the more unusual or unfair aspects of life.
This is the perfect book for when you're looking for something a little bit different - realistic romance, humour, human emotions and mystery.
Bring on the sequel!

The book is a light hearted read about a group of "thirty something" women looking for fun and obviously love (its aimed at girls remember). Short, well written, and funny enough.
Told the wife she would enjoy it so that speaks volumes though wouldnt recommend it to fellas.
Im giving it 4 out of 5 though i expect it to get top marks from the girlies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Paranormal Thrills, but Everyday Women 29 Jun 2012
By S
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
While entitled 'The Ghost Hunters Club', the real attraction behind the story are the three main characters: Linda, Anna and Karen. Each has her foibles, and they feel like real women. Their unique mannerisms, voices and actions jump off the page in a really believable way.

The thread tying the work together is the unlucky in love relationships including an abysmal attempt at speedating. These three women are searching for their happily ever after, and seeking out the supernatural while they do it.

The Ghost Hunters Club is delivered in a chatty, easy to relate to style that makes it akin to having a chat with the author. It's not pretentious or fancy, just plain simple storytelling about the insecurities of young women looking for love.
