Third film in Amando de Ossorio's horror series. When a pair of swimsuit models disappear after reporting a mysterious abandoned boat at sea, a search party sets out to investigate. Before long, they discover that the boat is home to the bloodthirsty, undead Templar Knights, grotesque eyeless zombies who hunt humans by sound alone.

THE MOVIE

The third entry of Amando de Ossorio's BLIND DEAD saga, El buque maldito (The cursed ship) is also the weakest.
While the fog-covered ghost galleon setting might be very atmospheric indeed, the story is very constructed and that is a major let-down: Ossorio, who directed all four BLIND DEAD movies and wrote the story and screnplay to this part, should have put more effort and time into the script. Basically the idea of the templar knights being on a galleon is not bad, but there is no reason for them to be there. Also how the people that trigger their awakening get onto the galleon is really illogical and overly constructed.
After an improvement in acting in RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD over TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD, we are stuck with a bad cast again for this entry. None of the actors are really convincing.
While the pacing is horrible, due to the fact that the characters this time are uninteresting, GHOST GALLEON does feature the BLIND DEAD-typical eerie atmosphere (like I said, the galleon is quite remarkable) and the zombies look great.
Oddly enough, while it is the only part of the series to be given a 15 certificate uncut in England, it is the only part to be banned outright in Germany until this day (despite being the least violent, there is not much in the blood & gore section here).
GHOST GALLEON is not a bad movie, but compared to the preceding parts it is only mediocre. Check out TOMBS OF THE BLIND DEAD and RETURN OF THE EVIL DEAD first, if you loved those, chances are you will like GHOST GALLEON as well.

This is my favorite of the Blind Dead films ive watched so far (ive watched the first 3) Its a 5 star movie for fans of european horror from the 1970's, however if your a reglar film fan approach with caution as the effects are not particularly convincing, however this is more than made up for in atmosphere and trashy style which only european horror can deliver. The story (what there is of it) revolves around a swimsuit modelling agency (yep) so this means there are half naked girls being chased by the blind dead aboard the ship. The ship setting is absolutely fantastic and really adds atmosphere. The cast is well chosen and the acting what youd expect from this type of film. Not much gore and what there is is not exactly Lucio Fulci standard, i.e. pretty poor, so gore hounds beware but lovers of eurotrash style and atmosphere should be delighted. Also what i love about these films is there really well shot with great locations and set dressing, so with all this wealth who needs gore?

i suspected this might be awful, but thought i'd at least sample it.unfortunately i could only stand 12 minutes of this rubbish before i backed away from it.what a silly plot for a start, then one of the lead actors decides to leave the safety of a perfectly working launch to get onto the deck what is obviously an ancient derelict ship in the middle of the ocean.(asking for trouble?,never!).oh well,i guess not all movies are gems.
