Product Description

This educational tool introduces the countries of the world and the states of the United States to students. Through active participation - colouring the maps - students should gain a broader understanding of the material and retain more information. The text is divided into sections, each dealing with a separate continent and containing a political map, a physical map and regional maps of individual countries grouped according to region. Basic facts are covered including: size, populations, government, language, climate and culture. Information, unique qualities, and current events related to individual countries appear on the page opposite the map for easy reference.

Comments on the second edition
In the second edition I have added the new countries of the former Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, as well as sections on seven historic land empires (shown over modern maps); flags of the world (shown in the context of their nations of origin; and an index that is also dictionary and quiz. This book uses the unique and effective coloring format I used in creating the famous Anatomy Coloring Book (with sales over two and a half million) and the Physiology Coloring Book. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

This is a great way to learn world geography. By coloring and reading about the country, state, river, mountain range, or territory, we learn in many ways at once. It stays with you. There's the visual, the kinetic, and auditory learning, if read outloud, like we do with my jr. high daughter. It's challenging for her, but she's getting it. As a homeschooling tool it can't be beat. It's great for adults, too!

I love this book. As a head of georaphy in a secondary school in the UK, this is the best way of teaching place-specific knowledge to the students. It is particularly good if you use the USA as a chosen named country at Key Stage Three. However, the detailed maps of China, South East Asia and South America make A Level lessons come alive. The maps can be used so that students will remember them in examinations.

I first began using this text at Tompkins-Cortland Community College in 1992. Most of my students used the book in the two Geography class that were required in the AAS program for travel and Tourism. Since moving to North Carolina I still use it in the courses that I teach in the Raleigh area. Students find the text a joy to use and it helps with their understanding of the political and physical areas of the subject. Since most students do not have formal Geographic training it is one of the best tools that thay have for self study. Many use the text in the travel industry after they enter the job market. The price is also very affordable. Just a great book. I have at least four myself. Even my wife the Geography hater loves this publication.
