5.0 out of 5 stars Dress in style 19 Aug 2006
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic book on how to dress in a stylish way, it covers everything from grooming tips and aftershave to the best makes of shoes and shirts. Unlike some other superficial books on the market this has real substance to it, you can actually read this book and know exactly what to go out and buy. This isn't a book on the latest fashions but how to develop a wardrobe that will stand the test of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Style 3 July 2008
Format:Paperback
This book is for men looking for _classic_ style, not fly-by-night fads of fashion. If you are a dedicated follower of all the new trends and colours, this book is not for you.

But if you, like me, want to understand the origins of style and get an insight into what should be worn when, and how it should be worn, this book is for you.

It covers all aspects of mens wear, from underwear to overcoats, and does it in a very readable manner. It can be dipped into, or if you like me, read from cover to cover and then read for nuggets of advise when necessary.

5.0 out of 5 stars A priceless bible of good taste! 13 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
This is a wonderful book for those who still care about taste. I disagree with the previous reviewer who said that it should concentrate on the "English gentleman", the beauty of this book is that it is truly international, therefore helping people dress well in a style that is suited to them and their environment. Not everyone can get away with wearing pin-stripes and bowler hats! The reviewer who said that this book only caters for James Bond has got the purpose of this brilliant book completely wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, good value book 7 Dec 2005
Format:Paperback
This book gets 5 stars because it is superb value for money – a hardback book of 350+ pages packed with beautiful colour pictures for less than 10 pounds!

Curiously, this book is written by a German, though it is hard to tell if it is a translated text.

I say curiously since Mr Roetzel looks outside of the borders of his own land for most of his inspiration for this work. He speaks with great authority on such prototypes as the English gent, the stylish Italian man and the American matinee idol. The quirky anthropological style highlights the passion the author has for his subject matter.

This book is indispensable to any man who aspires to be a well-dressed gent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Most Splendid work. 3 Nov 2010
Format:Paperback
With business-like aplomb this book steers you by the brolly through the outfitters, outer-wear and the outrageous mistakes that should not be made in the sartorial department. You could almost consider it a Letts guide to personal presentation. It gives insight into what to look for and how the garments with which you adorn yourself are constructed, types of millinery, how shoes are hand-made and generally gives a well illustrated and delightfully simple guide to that higher form of masculine existence.
Now just to find a suitable lady for pleasant companionship....

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book 19 Jun 2008
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a must read book for all the men wanting detailed information about the way to dress well, with some style and importantly, the history of why we dress in a particular way. It is the detail the author goes into regarding the history that I found most interesting. I also liked the comparisons between the English, continental / Italian and the American styles of dress code. It also gives very helpful information on grooming. Altogether a very good book and one I can't recommend highly enough.
