For those of you not familiar with Jorn Lande, he is one of the most powerful and impressive vocalist in the melodic rock and metal genres. His voice is extremely similar to David Coverdale's, though he draws obvious inspiration from Phil Lynott and Ronnie James Dio as well. Jorn's had quite the storied career, working with several bands and projects in addition to his solo career.
The Gathering is the ideal way to become more familiar with Jorn Lande's work. It features remixed and in some cases totally rerecorded versions of songs from his early solo albums as well as some side projects. I'm not usually a fan of artists reworking their previous material, but I think Jorn does it well here.
Here's what you get:
From Jorn's 3rd album Out to Every Nation are Something Real, Young Forever, and One Day We Will Put Out the Sun. The somewhat silly bonus track Big from the Japanese import of Out to Every Nation is also included, which makes this of particular interest to those of us who weren't willing to pay the import price for that one song.
From Jorn's 2nd album Worldchanger are Bridges Will Burn, Tungur Knivur, Sunset Station, House of Cards, Worldchanger, and Christine.
From Jorn's debut album Starfire are Gate of Tears and Abyss of Evil.
The song Hourglass comes from the Millenium album of the same name that featured Jorn on vocals.
My Own Way comes from Jorn's collaboration with Russell Allen (of Symphony X) called The Battle.
Where the Winds Blow is from Ark's debut album. I'd have preferred something from Burn the Sun, but that's a minor complaint.
I believe the song Gonna Find the Sun is exclusive to this compilation. It's certainly not on any of the Jorn albums I own.
The only notable absences are material from the Mundanus Imperium album Spectral Spheres Coronation and Jorn's early work in Vagabond. Other than that, The Gathering provides a great overview of Jorn's career that is perfect for new fans and dedicated followers alike.
