Just when you wondered if studio recordings had killed the soul of real music here are twelve tracks and each beautifully performed by Brigid who has a considerable talent for telling a tale to touch your heart with a voice of an angel.

What is nice about the album is that the songs are all quite well-known as traditional songs but with her interpretation they are fresh and young and very good listening.

My favourite? Probably Jamie Come Try Me. Oh- and Peggy Gordon, Loch Lomond and Glencoe. Not forgetting Mhairi's Wedding and Ae Fond Kiss. And I really like Red Red Rose and Wild Mountain Thyme because they are duets with Brigid's producer/guitarist Richard Dunn who is too clever by half. And then there is the somber but elegantly simple Amazing Grace with John Newton's original often forgotten verse (very nice touch). Caledonia is dedicated to a friend and is a valiant work given that its author, Dougie MacLean is still its most respected performer.

I heartily recommend this to anyone who likes Scottish/traditional folk music but would like to hear it as it might sound if you were in a highland croft sitting listening to the musicians play live. Do yourself a favour and stick Jamie Come Try Me on a decent stereo and crank up the volume.

Live but good studio quality and a VERY fine first album. More, more, more!!!!
