I managed to get a copy from the US in advance of its official release here.

Ruth's wonderful voice will be familiar to fans of the Wailin' Jennys, the band she founded with Nicky Mehta. This is her first full-length solo album.

It is a work of amazing beauty, calmness and musicianship. It is a transforming experience to listen to it. I have experienced this before with the Jennys, but this is on a new level. The production, by David Travers-Smith, is of outstanding quality. Stylistically the collection of songs is beautifully balanced.

Ruth assembled a formidable collection of musicians to back her up - all the Jennys are there at some point, plus, for example, Aoife O'Donovan and Brittany Hass from "Crooked Still" and her own brother Richard on violin.

Please support her, and give yourself a wonderful experience, by buying this for your self and everyone you can think of who might like it.

An excellent offering from Ruth Moody. This is a real album - no synths or production tricks. Just full of well written songs excellently set to music using real instruments. I buy a lot of music and this one is amongst the best female vocal albums I have purchased in the last 12 months. If you like music with "space" that won't tire on the ears I recommend this album. Acoustic guitar, wonderful voice!

It took a while for this to grow on me, as it's so gentle on the ears I decided it was lightweight, inconsequential, etc. But perhaps its power comes from that very restraint and gentle precision. Either way, I now love it. It's absolutely beautiful. If you love acoustic instruments played with taste and - that word again - restraint, and a voice freed of histrionics and showing off, give this a try.
