Don't assume this is what you might think! 2 April 2005
By S. Hebbron - Published on Amazon.com
A first glance I expected to find a garderner's manual in minature, but not so, I should have known better knowing Phaidon as I do.

A fabulous little book which chronicles fabulous and famous gardens worldwide, ancient and modern, tropical to traditonal, endlessly interesting and inspirational even it does not give planting and planning tips and shcemes.

I know I'm British and gardening is in my blood but this delightful little book has universal appeal!

Sublime introduction to landscape architecture 23 May 2007
By Barton Poulson - Published on Amazon.com

My heavens, what a lovely book! Although my creative cathexis is primarily focused on product design and architecture, mine eyes have beheld the glory of landscape architecture as a result of this inspiring tome (as well as the fascinating biannual of modern landscaping "'Scape," which is also available on Amazon). The pictures are lush, even in a little book like this. The alphabetical organization mixes thousands of years of masterpieces from around the world, giving a fabulous feel for the astounding diversity and creativity of landscaping. And the price simply can't be beat. I can't recommend this book highly enough -- I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

A VERY NICE LITTLE BOOK - RECOMMEND 23 Aug 2005
By D. Blankenship - Published on Amazon.com
Like another reviewer, I did feel myself inspired by this particular work. Not all of us have the space, means or skill to create such things of beauty but is is somehow comforting to know there are those in this world who can. I must admit that I did pick up some very nice ideas and parts of ideas from this work and recommend it for anyone who likes to scratch around in the dirt and simply likes pretty things.
