This book is a little heavy if you are going to carry it on the trail, but I did and it was very helpful and makes a good memiore when you have finished. You would not really need maps as well unless visibility was bad and you needed and escape route for some reason. The topo guides though are nicely complementary with much better mapping and strangely some of the texts are eerily similar!

Seems like the guide to use for this trek.
Pity Trailblazer do not have a version available for comparison.
For the Tour de Mont Blanc both publishers have guides available - the Trailblazer one is much more user friendly.

I guess a 'real' review would be more apt after using the book on the trail....it does seem to have most of the information that is needed.
