Product Description

Product Description

How many times did Dr John Watson tantalise us with references to mysteries which his creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, never wrote about in full? In these full cast original adventures Bert Coules, the chief dramatist of BBC Radio 4's celebrated complete Sherlock Holmes canon, has imaginatively fleshed out four more unrecorded cases. "The Striking Success of Miss Franny Blossom Holmes" investigates a respectable gambling club and Watson meets a fascinating woman from his friend's past.In "The Thirteen Watches", a bizarre series of events on an express train brings a railway baron to Baker Street. In "The Peculiar Persecution of Mr John Vincent Harden", a formidable puzzle holds the clue to a long-hidden secret and the tragic fate of two very different families. In "The Ferrers Documents", a slum landlord, a missing witness and a woman in a man's world all figure in a dark tale of hatred and revenge. Clive Merrison and Andrew Sachs star in these four brand new BBC Radio 4 full-cast adventures.

This is an excellent series from the BBC. It is extremely well dramatised and the voices of Holmes and Watson are excellent. Listeners of Radio 4 will have heard Clive Merrison as Holmes before, and as ever he is excellent.
I would recommend all of these BBC versions of Sherlock Holmes. They are well thought out and completely in keeping with Conan Doyles ideas and style.
It is a clever idea to take stories that are mentioned in the original books and actually tell the whole tale. I think Conan Doyle would approve of the class and cleverness of these new stories.
An excellent buy I would wholeheartedly recommend this audio book and its 2 predecessors. (I would also recommend the complete box set of the original stories dramatised by the BBC and starring Clive Merrison and the late Michael Williams. Coules also dramatised them. Expensive but you will only buy them once in a lifetime!!!!)

Don't hesitate to buy this CD set. Bert Coules writes true to the memory of ACD without losing his own style. Highly recommended
