Review

"Entertainment Weekly" DeGeneres is in top form with her second collection of kooky observations....Her strongest assets -- a-hard won dignity and softly skewed worldview -- are on chuckle-inducing display throughout.

About the Author

Ellen DeGeneres's first book, "My Point...and I Do Have One, " was an instant national bestseller that spent more than six months on the "New York Times" bestseller list. DeGeneres has won an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, and a People's Choice Award for her work as a writer and actress on her television series "Ellen, " and received Emmy nominations as host of the "39th Annual Grammy Awards, " as an executive producer of HBO's "If These Walls Could Talk 2, " and as star and executive producer of her critically acclaimed one-woman HBO special "The Beginning." DeGeneres made history when her on-screen persona Ellen Morgan became the first openly gay leading character on television, but her groundbreaking legacy had already begun in 1986, on the "Tonight Show, " when she became the first and only female comic invited by Johnny Carson to sit down with him after her stand-up performance. In September 2003, DeGeneres launched "The Ellen DeGeneres Show, " her own nationally syndicated daytime talk show. --This text refers to the Audio CD edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very funny thing! 4 April 2007
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Ellen's book and laughed a lot while reading her observations about parking, fitness lessons and food! I only wished the book was longer and it included more entries from her personal relationships with Anne Heche and Portia de Rossi, as well as her experience as a worldwide known talk show host (a tv personality). It would have been thrilling to read about her efforts to help the underprivileged and the misunderstood, as well as the people who have found a way 'from rags to riches' and who are living the life of their dreams, doing whatever their mission in life may be.

I opened this book and the first page made me laugh out loud and I could not stop till I finished the book. it is extremely funny. I love her funny spin on eveyday embarrasing moments from what clothes your wearing to not listening in a conversation and being asked a question. She is a very funny lady in everything she does from her sitcom days to the ellen degeneres show she does today. She never fails to make me laugh and this book certianly did and you get a whole chapter absoluty free so I would really recommend you buy this book as I am sure it will make you laugh like I did.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG... You've got to read this book! 1 Dec 2011
By Emsky
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is fantastic. I loved Ellen's first book and I loved this one too. Already bought her 3rd one and can't wait to read it.
It's sooo funny. Ellen talks utter nonsense throughout most of the book, but so many times I found myself thinking 'yeah, I do/think that too'
I read half of it to my mum cos everytime I laughed she wanted to know what was so funny.

Totally laugh out loud at this fabulous book. Love you Ellen... keep writing :) x x x

5.0 out of 5 stars The Funny Thing is...is Funny 5 Nov 2003
Format:Hardcover
What a great book, I only read the first sentence and I started laughing! The book is basically about all these experiences and events, and well how wrong and embarrasing they can get! The way I just described it sounds like a typical bad comedy, but it's not, it's so funny, I can't describe it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Low-Key Humour 21 Jan 2004
By takingadayoff VINE VOICE
Format:Hardcover
Ellen's humour is understated and quiet, so don't expect a lot of laugh-out-loud moments. This is more a smile-in-agreement-at-how-ridiculous-it-all-is sort of comedy. The Funny Thing Is is a pleasant read, perfect to take on the airplane or at the Motor Vehicle Department. I hope she's busy writing her next book!

2.0 out of 5 stars Odd
If you want a book of strange anecdotes that may or may not be true then this is for you, personally I got bored of the ridiculousness and decided not to continue reading.

2.0 out of 5 stars short, unintelligent and I expected more from Ellen
Not terribly funny, or intelligent. Ellen is a great comedian, presenter and personality, I'm not sure however if this is her best write up.
