This is a great 3 cd set of MARTY WILDE'S singles[both sides]from 1957 to 1963. Also included is various early album tracks and two songs from 1968.
I have been after a cd like this of Marty's that had "ALL"[both sides that is]of his singles from '57 to '63 his rock and roll years[and his
greatest recordings].
As was often[but not always]the case in the rock and roll era British singers covered American/Canadian singers songs-Marty's covers were great on his hits like "ENDLESS SLEEP" "DONNA" "A TEENAGER IN LOVE" "DANNY" "SEA OF LOVE" "BAD BOY"[wrote himself] "RUBBER BALL" "JEZEBEL" etc.
Marty also recorded fabulous covers of American songs that were sadly not hits for him, such as "HONEYCOMB" this coupled with his self written
rocker classic "WILD CAT" was his first single released in the latter part of 1957. But he also covered other American classics greatly that included
his second single[released january 1958]"LOVE BUG CRUEL"/"AFRAID OF LOVE" of which the "A" side was originally recorded by JIMMY EDWARDS in 1957 a U.S.A.
chart hit for him. Both the original and Marty's cover version of "LOVE BUG CRUEL" would fail to chart in the U.K.
CD comes with an informative booklet that also has a singles discography '57-'63.
This 3 cd[of 22,21,21,tracks respectively]is indeed-THE FULL MARTY-and certainly the most ultimate of his cds released of his greatest recordings.
So many brilliant ballads/rockers are on here-especially so of both sides to several of Marty's singles.
-The last two songs on disc 3["BY THE TIME I GET TO PHOENIX" and "ABERGAVENNY" were recorded in 1968 and both were released as separate singles-"A" sides].
-The "B" sides to these two 1968 singles were,"SHUTTERS AND BOARDS" and "ALICE IN BLUE".
-Please note Marty Wilde's last U.K. chart hit single was in 1962-but he recorded and released further "singles" upto the early/mid 1970s.
Regards,Bill.
