This is a story adapted from the film of the same title, it is is about 4 young men and their relationships with one another.
The first chapters introduce them to us as all having been raised together in Michigan, we something of their sporting life and their inter-relationship with one another. The main emphasis of the story is around the theme of temptation and sin and how one can be restored. Two brothers Mike and Brent are key players in the story, Mike the elder brother lures his brother into a drugs gang with dire consequences. The drug Lord a man called Sean, tries to see how brave they are and gives Mike a gun so that they can shoot TJ a young black man who is also son of the Pastor. Brent tries to stop his brother shooting but it all goes horribly wrong and TJ soon finds himself in hospital fighting for his life. In the meantime the other Frontier boys try to find out who has shot their friend. they manage to track down the car that was used but then their own car is damaged and the hiding place of the car is burnt down by the criminals.
TJ's Father finds himself struggling with all the problems that come when one's son has been shot, TJ has been placed on life support but there is no trace of any brain activity, should he let his son's organs be harvested and admit that his son is really dead? The story weaves back and forth between the account of the pastors struggles in the hospital and how the frontier boys are coping.
I don't want to give the whole plot away but suffice it to say Brent confesses to his unwilling involvement in the gang, which leads to the arrest of the gang and the drug lord.
If you want to know what happened to TJ and the other Frontier Boys you will have to read the book.

Suspenseful, hard to put down book 11 Oct. 2012
By Valerie Caraotta - Published on
Format: Paperback
The Frontier Boys: The Novel. The Frontier Boys is a fictional work by John Grooters that depicts two opposite polar sides of brothers that find themselves trying to escape the law due to reckless behavior and unwise choices. The younger brother, a star basketball player in high school and excellent student of good reputation lives a life very different than his older brother of 8 years, a college dropout and drug user/ seller. Brent, the younger of the two, finds himself compromising his gut instincts, follows his brother after church and must then deal with the emotional and legal ramifications of his mishap.
See how justice and mercy plays out while getting in the hearts of key characters and feeling their struggles.
Though fictional in nature there are some real truths that can be grasped:
- Be careful who you hang around with.
- Sowing and reaping is the law of the land.
- The prayers of a righteous man avail much.
- A true friend can stick closer than a brother.
- Never underestimate the power of the living God.
This is a hard to put down book and you will want to race to find increasingly more information as the drama climaxes. Truly a 5 star quality book to read and pass on to others.

interesting! 31 Oct. 2012
By Ms. E. Chijarira - Published on
Format: Paperback
I liked reading this book. It made me laugh and cry. This is one of the best fictional novels I have read with biblical values. As I read this book I found myself being encouraged to press on and pray until I see things happen and never to give up. It was simple and easy to read. I believe many people will be blessed as they read this book and relate to life challenges in this book and how God can turn things around if we dare believe him.

Action packed 11 Oct. 2012
By Robert Pike - Published on
Format: Paperback
John writes one of those stories that moves fast and is full of many elements, including: anticipation, loyalty, fear, truth, hope, restoration and grace! His book will capture you and make you think deeply on questions and mysteries that we are made to seek in our journey of understanding. Whom we are? Whom God is? Why are we here?

Fast and fun read 2 Nov. 2012
By Melanie Arias - Published on
Format: Paperback
The book pulled me in immediately with the main character, Brent. He is from a single parent home. His adult brother, Mike, is selfish and cruel and his mother drinks and is disengaged. Brent is a basketball player for a high school team in northern Michigan. Two of the other characters, TJ and Jed, are also basketball players. Another character, Jackson, is at the heart of the cheering section. All four of the high school boys have a long friendship and are known as the frontier boys.

The story gets interesting quickly when the Frontier Boys accidentally get mixed up with Mike and his law-breaking friends. Mike thinks he is on to a fortune when he connects with a major drug dealer. Brent is tempted to join the drug scene for money and approval. Another one of the Frontier Boys is shot in a drive-by shooting by the drug gang.

The story moves quickly and is neither too depressing nor too sappy. The chapters are short and the writing is crisp. This would be perfect for a middle school or high school library. There is plenty of action to keep a younger reader interesting. The only part that is not realistic is the lack of swearing by the drug gang. But, as a parent, I would not want my son or daughter to read something riddled with curse words.

I certainly look forward to seeing the movie after reading this novel!
