Product Description

Double-bill of the classic counterculture animated films, based on the promiscuous, dope-smoking feline created by Robert Crumb. In 'Fritz the Cat' (1972), Fritz takes a trip to New York, where he hangs out with Black Panthers, Hell's Angels, some lady cats, and indulges in the psychedelic drug scene. In the sequel, 'Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat' (1974), Fritz takes a drug-induced trip and dreams about his other eight lives, where he is alternately an astronaut, Hitler's psychiatrist, and the pupil of an Indian guru living in the sewers of New York.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageously entertaining 29 Jan 2012

Fritz the Cat, disc 1 ... Wonderful, hilarious, totally un p.c. without being offensive in any way, a real insight into the extremes of the 1960's. The animal cariacatures were brilliant. Fritz the Cat's Nine Lives, disc 2 ... not worth bothering with. Interview with creator of Fritz the Cat, extremely interesting and adds to the film.

3.0 out of 5 stars 1970's nostalgia 7 Oct 2011
Verified Purchase
Nostalgia ain't what it used to be! I sat in the Globe cinema in Cardiff in 1972 and laughed my head off at the adult adventures of Fritz. But this sort of humour is very much "of the moment." This is still a worthwhile buy for those who were around at the time, and younger viewers with a penchant for schoolboy humour will find themselves giggling at the lewdness of it all.
