A nice pacy black and white film featuring a young pre-James Bond Sean Connery.
Great to watch and with the added bonus of seeing the 1961 scenery of post war London thrown in.
The title track was written by Michael Carr, and recorded as a single by The Shadows in 1961, Carr wrote other hits for the Shadows including Man of Mystery.
Even Shadows producer Norrie Paramor turns up playing piano in one scene! A very 'Shadows' sounding group plays along to a track in a club scene, the title track may be an alternative cut of the 'Frightened City' tune by the Shadows, it has the Hank Marvin style of echo laden guitar on it, but have not seen anything to confirm that.
However, the film plot centres around the protection racket used by organised crime and the joining of a number of crime syndicates across London to form a sort of conglomerate, dividing up jobs and proceeds.
However as the film progresses the conglomerate starts to implode and Scotland Yard makes headway into closing down the operation.
Watch this great film for yourself to see the whole thing play out!
Some top performances from the likes of Herbert Lom, Sean Connery and Alfred Marks
