This special 25th Anniversary edition includes the classic 1981 The Fox and the Hound movie in its entirety and an abundance of special features including a Backstage Disney featurette, two interactive hide-and-seek games, sing-along, read-along, art gallery, and two Disney shorts. The fascinating six-and-a-half minute Backstage Disney segment "Passing the Baton" emphasizes the The Fox and the Hound's place as a historical turning point in Disney animation; chronicling the process by which legendary animators Woolie Reitherman, Frank Thomas, and Ollie Johnston, three of "Disney's Nine Old Men" whose names were synonymous with Disney Animation from the Snow White era, began work on The Fox and the Hound characters and their relationships and then encouraged a whole new generation of young Disney animators including Glen Keane, Randy Cartwright, Ron Clements, and John Musker to build upon that foundation, completing the movie's animation and effectively initiating a whole new chapter in Disney animation that would later culminate in movies like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin.

The "Passing the Baton" segment also touches upon The Fox and the Hound's underlying messages about friendship, racial prejudice, stereotyping, and bigotry. The "Art Gallery" features a large selection of original art from the movie and includes concept art rendered in both pastels and storyboard pencil sketches, live action footage shot with co-director Art Stevens acting as Amos Slade, footage of voice and musical talent, as well as merchandising and publicity art. Two captivating, eight-minute bonus shorts are also included. The 1951 Lambert the Sheepish Lion tells the story of a young lion cub mistakenly delivered to a mother sheep by a confused stork and promotes acceptance and tolerance of diversity. And the 1941 Lend A Paw is a Mickey Mouse short in which Pluto rescues a drowning kitten and learns important lessons about kindness and acceptance. --Tami Horiuchi --This text refers to an alternate DVD edition.

I first saw this gem at my grandparent's house when I was about eight, and then several more times till I was 11. The story I find is lovable and gripping, and is just one of the most enjoyable and emotional Disney films of all time. It was made in 1981, only 22 years ago, but the animation still remains lovable to this day, as are the characters. Some scenes are sad and emotional, others are exciting, and some are just hilarious!! I am thinking about buying this now considering I haven't seen it for nearly five years! Though some say it is aimed for kids, I would say this is for anyone of any age. I may be 16 now, but that has not stopped me from enjoying this underrated masterpiece, and I'm sure many people around and above my age will agree with me. This film is has plenty of bright, uplifting scenes perfect for a rainy day. Scarily enough I cannot watch this film without weeping at least once!
You can never be too old to enjoy a Disney film. This is by far one of the best. If you want it, buy it. I know I will!

Disney films have been the best part of childhood. Its always been a magical thing for me and i still get that lovely feeling everytime i watch one. Its about a fox called Tod and a Hound dog named Copper. They become best friends until Copper goes away to be trained as a hunting dog. If you haven't watched it i wont spoil it, but its great. It teachs children the value of friendship. There's great characters like Dinky and Boomer, two birds desperate to get the same caterpillar, and Chief, an old dog who is grumpy and miserable. altogether another classic Disney film!

A lovely story of a friendship tested and endured, showing kids that people can be friends no matter how differently the world perceives them or how different the paths of their lives are. My son has watched this video again and again over the years, from being a small child to now being a 'cool 10 yearold'. Though it's age prevents modern special effects, this is in no way detracts from the enjoyment of this story.

Second to The Lion King, I love this film. I first watched it when I was about 14 and bawled my eyes out. 10 years later and it still gets to me. A wonderful story about a fox and a hound and how they become friends despite the fact that society seems them as enemies. The film follows them through fun and adventure and then trials and tribulations. The ending is what gets to me; due to those around them, they realise they can't live in harmony with each other but work out a way to both go about their day to day business. Wonderful and beautiful film

I love this film, the animations great, the characters are lovable, the voice actings spot on and the story is fantastic.this is one if Disneys most underrated films. the reason i couldnt give it 5 stars is because the songs arnt Disneys most memorable and there isn't enough scenes with Copper and Tod as pups, these scenes are the film at its most fun. One of my favorite animated films, flawwed yes,but definately worth your(and your familys) time.Warning though-bring the hankies, your gonna need'em!

Along with Robin Hood, this is my favourite Disney film (and probably has made me love foxes for life! :p). The plot is fantastic - I may have only been 5 when I first saw it but it still keeps me engaged now, 10+ years later.

Unlike Robin Hood, however, it has about four scenes where I cry; forget Bambi, this film has potential to be a true weepy when you're involved in it enough! Start to care about the main characters (Todd and Copper) and it's a never ending spiral.

My daughter has been pestering me for this for ages until she finally bought it herself with her pocket money. I refunded her pocket money after I sat and watched it with her! I loved it too : ) She had bought Part 2, which is just as good and yes, she got a pocket money refund for that...!

I browsed through Disney classics and The Fox and The Hound became the obvious choice. It is a Disney animation I have not previously seen. "The Fox and the Hound" represents one of the finest and elegant pieces to date by Disney. The loveable characters, nice story, trademark humour and enchanting settings are the main features of "The Fox and the Hound". I really enjoyed watching it. The fact that Christmas is in the corner made the occasion watching it extra special. The Fox and the Hound was released in 1981. It is based in the North American forest, where nature is something to really admire. It is about a special bonding between a fox and hound. The friendship is really challenged, when the hound is trained to be a hunter of the fox. Does the friendship last? The real beauty about the Disney animations it is magical and make what seems not possible come true. Fox and The Hound joins the list of Disney classics, which share unforgettable moments. Disney has scored a winner with the animation for the whole family to really enjoy.
