Product Description

Review

`The Foundation Stage Teacher in Action is one of the definitive texts on the foundation stage, in which Margaret Edgington deals with the realities of practice based on theory and early years principles. It is immensely practical and easy to read, and while it deserves to be read from cover to cover, this New Edition is particularly accessible for those who want to dip in or who need to refer to a specific chapter' - Early Education

`If you are new to the Foundation Stage, have been working in the Early Years for a few years, or for longer than you care to remember, if you have responsibility for employing staff for the Foundation Stage within your setting or if you work in a different key stage but have co-ordinator responsibility for the Foundation Stage, you should buy this book!' - National Campaign for Nursery Education Newsletter

About the Author

Margaret Edgington (formerly known as Margaret Lally) is a freelance early years consultant who leads, or contributes to, in-service courses for early years staff throughout the UK. She also works as a consultant helping senior management teams and early years practitioners to evaluate and develop their practice. She trained as an early years teacher, and has taught in infant as well as nursery classes. However, she is a specialist in work with 3-6 year olds. Her experience has included educational home visiting; lecturing on an NNEB course; work as an early years co-ordinator in two ILEA divisions; headship of a new nursery school in inner London; and work as a development officer at the National Children's Bureau, Under Fives Unit.

She has authored and contributed to numerous books and other publications, is an active member of the Early Years Curriculum Group, and is a Vice President of the National Campaign for Nursery Education and of Early Education.

Format: Paperback
Someone once wrote of a scholar from a previous generation that "a bad book is not in her." We could say the same of Margaret Edgington, whose work, the Nursery Teacher in Action, went to two editions and numerous reprints. Edgington has resisted the temptation to update her book after the introduction of the Foundation Stage, using the "Find/Replace" tool on her text, and has given us instead something that is thoroughly revised in the light of current thinking. She remains fervently committed to a pedagogy in which play has a major role, and has taken on the changes that the latest reorganisation requires - even to a section of questions that might be asked at an interview for a Foundation Stage teacher.
It is clearly time to look seriously at the gaps in effective pedagogy in the Early Years; this is a book that will help guide practitioners through the wide range of issues and to provide practical help and case studies. In short, this is a must-have book for all staff in Early Years settings and for heads and governors anxious to provide the best for the children in their school.
