Synopsis

The stunning TV tie-in edition of Galsworthy's classic, The Forsyte Saga: The Man of Property and In Chancery features the first two novels of the saga that are the basis of ITV's major new period drama. Featuring an extremely strong cast and lavish production values which includes filming on location in the great houses of the north-west of England, The Forsyte Saga is ITV's major investment for 2002 with a production budget of over 6million pounds. This book is the only edition that features just the novels adapted in the series and will be presented as a user-friendly hardback edition with cast photography and series artwork. An epic drama of sex, power and money, The Forsyte Saga chronicles the lives of a middle class family over thirty-four years. Spanning three generations, it tells stories of character or glory their wealth and social status. Superior, arrongant and confident on the surface the Forsytes are the ultimate powerful Victorian family but underneath is a festering core of unhappy and brutal relationships riddled with tensions and jealousies. Soames Forsyte is the rich, successful partner in the family law firm.

He is the original man of property and a true believer in Forsyte family values. His fiery, tormented relationship with Irene, his beautiful wife is at the heart of the saga. He adores her, but she despises him and everything he stands for. Young Jolyon Forsyte is cousin and rival to Soames who shows the sensitive, humanitarian side of the family. Irene Forsyte completes the triangle. Penniless but beautiful and accomplished, she agrees to marry Soames Forsyte after an aggressive courtship. Naturally artistic and passionate she feels miserable caged in a cold marriage. Her life changes for ever when she meets Philip Bosinney, an architect hired by Soames to build a country house. Bosinney is an outspoken, sexy, charming idealist. Irene falls in love and their affair becomes the catalyst that smashes the Forsyte family. Soames takes Bosinney to court, bankrupts him and rapes Irene in a fit of jealous rage. Bosinney's shocking and bizarre death throws an accusing spotlight on the Forstye family - a self protective and merciless tribe - were they ultimate responsible for killing him? --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Excellent read 8 July 2003
Format:Paperback
This is a fantastic book, covering everything about the show from its stars to the characters to the make up and the story behind the Forsytes. I look forward to reading the next installment to accompany the second series. Some brilliant photos especially of my favourite Damien Lewis
I would recommend this title to anyone.
