Product Description

Review

""The Forgotten Palestinians" strings together fragments, events, documents, and interviews into a coherent and convincing narrative in a way that will certainly lend itself to advancing future studies. In this way, Pappe's book is also a cornerstone study, and one that will certainly produce many more in the same tradition, making this book both overdue and timely."--Ryvka Barnard, "Arab Studies Journal"--Ryvka Barnard "Arab Studies Journal "

Product Description

For more than 60 years, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have lived as Israeli citizens within the borders of the nation formed at the end of the 1948 conflict. Occupying a precarious middle ground between the Jewish citizens of Israel and the dispossessed Palestinians of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Palestinians have developed an exceedingly complex relationship with the land they call home; however, in the innumerable discussions of the Israel-Palestine problem, their experiences are often overlooked and forgotten.

In this book, historian Ilan Pappé examines how Israeli Palestinians have fared under Jewish rule and what their lives tell us about both Israel's attitude toward minorities and Palestinians' attitudes toward the Jewish state. Drawing upon significant archival and interview material, Pappé analyzes the Israeli state's policy towards its Palestinian citizens, finding discrimination in matters of housing, education, and civil rights. Rigorously researched yet highly readable, The Forgotten Palestinians brings a new and much-needed perspective to the Israel-Palestine debate.

Excellent Survey 28 May 2012
By Thawra!
Format:Hardcover
Professor Pappe has written an outstanding survey of the plight of the Palestinians living in the Zionist State from the Nakba to the present day. The book's contents are extensively footnoted which one would expect from a serious academic endeavor. At the same time, it is written in an eminently readable manner. This is a companion volume to the "Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine" which has forever laid to rest the Zionist myth of a "voluntary" Palestinian exodus from their Homeland in 1948. This book in turn lays to rest the Zionist myth that the Palestinians living within "48" (what the Zionists refer to as "Israel")are treated in the same manner as the Jews.

Biased nonsense 4 Dec 2011
By Jacques
Format:Hardcover
Ilan Pappe is one of the more extremist 'historians' on this topic. His lies and libels have been documented by many people, including Morris and Karsh. This book is a desperate attempt to undermine the Arabs of Israel. Despite the fact that according to most polls, most Israeli Arabs, who are fully fledged citizens with equal rights, would prefer to live in Israel than in a Palestinian state, Pappe marginalises the opinions of the Arabs of Israel in a racist attempt to aggrandise their Palestinian identity and group them with the Palestinians who live in the West Bank and Gaza. This really is shoddy, especially of a man who considers himself to be a historian but who is actually nothing of the sort.

Critiques of Pappe can be found here ([...]) and here ([...]).

Excellent book 15 Jun 2011
By Dr D - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Ilan Pappe has once again proven that he is one of the best historians on the Palestinian plight which has been disregarded and distorted by the embedded Western media and their mendacious mob. I highly recommend this insightful book along with his other wonderful work, "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine." Your reward will be knowing that you are on the right side of history.

great researcher and scholar 3 July 2011
By Munther Fahmi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
All negative reviews of this book seem to be represented by people who are not interested in the truth and are only interested in personaly attacking and discrediting the author, without ANY basis to their claims,in order to prevent the truth about Israel'e apartheid regime from being unveiled let alone debated.

I recomend this book and his other one called "The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine". Munther Fahmi, a Jerusalem Bookseller who reads what he sells.

The Whole World is Wrong 28 Aug 2011
By Theo Basalyia - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
Pappe, along with Chomsky, Finkelstein, Pilger, Hedges, Gideon Levy and Richard Goldstone along with a myraid of others have all revealed the horror of the State of Israel, founded on fanaticism, pillage, rape and murder. The entire world, except the U.S., has condemned Israel for the war crimes it has routinely committed since 1948. But Israel, it seems, is populated with nationalists who admit to nothing of the sort. They are the very same "deniers" they castigate; they are the people that have no mirrors. Imagine, Israel has a majority of Jews that believe they cannot be evil no matter what they do as long as they say "security." The U.S. and Israel are brothers in crimes against humanity.
