5.0 out of 5 stars The Saga of the Forever Gate continues... 3 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
and if you've read the first book, you may have yet some a good idea of what's coming in this sequel of The Forever Gate - Part One.
While in the first book the readers followed the - more than enough - action from the perspective of Hoodwink, this story describes the adventures of his daughter, Ari.
Now an old woman - 29 going on 90 because of the "Vitra" - Ari waits for her father to return from beyond the walls of the always more and more snow-covered city - from the so-called "Outside". Then he really returns, and drags her into a world where reality meets artificial context and intelligence...

And the relationship between the "Town" and its "Gols" to the "Outside" and the "Humans" will be revealed in some kind of first showdown, a first battle Ari has to win. But other - and more dangerous battles are waiting for her and her helpers.
And will be much more difficult to win - or simply not to lose???
But You have to read this second part of the "Forever Gate" after having read the first one, The Forever Gate - Part One...

As the first one, this novel - of more than the double length than Nr. One - mixes Science-Fiction with Fantasy in perfect proportion, but this time adds Horror, too.
The Forever Gate make us doubt what it means to be real or a mirage...
Look in the mirror - what do You see?

This is the second Part of a 5-part story, with monthly sequels.
I am yet very impatiently waiting for Part III, which should be released soon...
This is a series that - until now - is a highly recommended read also for those who like their heroines tough and unforgiving!
Thumbs up, Hoodwink and Ari, plus their helpers, too!
And a heartful "Thank-You-very-much" to the Author Isaac Hooke, too!

3.0 out of 5 stars Moves along nicely, but.... 12 Feb. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a bit of a 'pot-boiler' of a novel, which is a fast and moderately enjoyable read without doing anything very new. It straddles the border between Sci-Fi and Fantasy (not an inherently bad thing), but the 'Sci' elements will disappoint fans of 'hard' Sci-Fi novels.

I enjoyed this series enough to want to read all the books in the trilogy....

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! 14 Feb. 2013
By Jasper T. Scott - Published on

The Forever Gate 2 was a great follow-up to the first book in the series. Here the mystery of the "Outside" continues, but now we are given a glimpse of just what that outside looks like. The characters are more fully developed in this book, now with the focus shifting to Hoodwinks' daughter. Every chapter has something suspenseful happening, making the book was very hard to put down, and Isaac's writing style flows like few others. To top it all off, the editing was superb. As a fellow Science Fiction and Fantasy author, I was able to honestly say upon finishing Isaac's first two novels that there's a lot to admire about his books. And as a reader, I was able to honestly say that I was never bored and never disappointed. Forever Gate 1&2 were both a very entertaining read! These books are a must-have for any Sci-Fi and Fantasy fan. The only negative thing I have to say, is that we still have to wait for Forever Gate 3!

5.0 out of 5 stars Captivating! An Expertly Crafted Story Beckons! 5 Mar. 2013
By Mac Briggs Johnston - Published on

(**** This review has no spoilers ****)

This story will inspire a gamut of emotions in you, as it did for me, from sheer joy and captivation, to excitement, all the way to bringing you to the brink (or over the brink) of tears! You will find yourself laughing out loud, sometimes at the deftly woven humor, sometimes at the fantastic and amazing twists and turns the plot takes. The fact that Hooke can do all this speaks volumes about his capacity as a storyteller, easily catapulting him into that realm that is the exclusive abode of the best fantasy/science fiction writers.

This second instalment of "The Forever Gate" series strengthens and complements the first book, fleshing out the plot and characters further. It is mainly written from the perspective of Hoodwink's daughter Ari, providing a fresh, fascinating slant to the world, and the opportunity for the reader to perceive events from a female point of view.

Like the first, this second book is steeped in multi-level metaphors, causing the reader to question what is real and what is not; what really matters and what does not. An air of mystery permeates the book, and the origins of the world are suggested by one character, yet it remains to be seen if his perception is the true one.

The writing is exceptional, in that it conveys just the right balance of action, emotion and plot, while catching the reader in a tight net woven of suspense. Hooke's indefatigable concentration is remarkable, and he continually manages to compel the reader, always filling the pages with excellence and intrigue.

It sounds cliché, but I really can't wait for the next instalment!

4.0 out of 5 stars reasonably good read 3 May 2013

all the books in the series are decently written, a bit short but overall good story. They could be and should be combined into one book for one price. I don't like having to wait for hte next part of the story for a month, get into another multi part scifi and forget what was going on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, not great. A good follow up 15 Mar. 2013
By Stephen Lerch - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Forever Gate 2 picks up where the Forever Gate 1 left off (obviously).

We dig deeper into just what the "outside" is and get deeper character development of both Hoodwink and especially his daughter.

Entertaining and fun. Better than the first, which is a good thing as it shows Isaac is evolving as a writer.

Can't wait to see what FG3 has to offer, especially seeing where Isaac's next evolution as a writer takes him.
