I thoroughly enjoyed this book as it is clearly written by someone who actually eats the plants they write about. This makes a huge difference since what he recommends actually works in the real world! Too many other wild food books list plants whose edibility is marginal to say the least - you can eat them but they taste like ....

Whilst a previous reviewer is right that this book focuses on the US, if they had looked a little closer they would have found approximately half the plants mentioned grow in the UK. Use the scientific names to cross reference to a UK guide book (or better, more than one book) and you should find many of the plants right here in the UK. Also the tips for identification, preparation, etc. apply to many plants not just the ones mentioned.

This is a beautiful book to add to your wild food library even if a large amount of the entries don't apply to you. The writing is excellent, showing a full and deep understanding of the subject and anyone who can compose a line such as "at almost every meal I eat something that was a "gift of unbroken land"" gets my vote. Beautiful and informative.

1.0 out of 5 stars American book In Europe 4 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
Book should be more clearly marked that it is full of American plants.

Now I have a book I can't use, unless I visit America one day. Which is unlikely cos I spend all my money on things from the internet I can't use.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Foragers harvest 30 Oct 2009
By Jo m
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was very disapointed with this book when it eventually arrived.
Perfect book if you are in America or Canada but not a lot of use for us in the U.K. As I purchased it as a present it was even more of a disapointment as it sits in the book shelve unused. A total waste of money

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant day out book 8 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Brilliant day out book, I have become accustomed to the odd snack as I walk along so this is an adventure waiting to happen. I use this to forage for food, educate and is an adventure for the Great Nephew an I when out and introducing my own brand of interest and madness which he has come to view with intrigue.

OK book, but it better for people based in the United States and not Europe
