Product Description

Harvey's team always loses. Professor Gertie, Harvey's neighbour, can't understand why. But the bouncing boots she invented were too bouncy, and the smoke machine she's sewn into Harvey's shorts blew out so much smoke Harvey couldn't see the goal.

Harvey and The Team are so rubbish they accept the help of Professor Gertie - they'll do anything to win! But all her inventions are a disaster. Then the Professor creates her greatest invention - a robot called Mark 1 the Football Machine.

It's the robot that makes this book special, although the animosity of the ref and rival teams, and frustrations of the team members who have no confidence in themselves, all make the story really enjoyable. And thankfully, in the end The Team succeed without cheating!

Definitely a fun book for 5-8 year olds learning to read, and if they're football fans then all the better. The amusing cartoon illustrations really add to the book and the robot is full of character. My son loved the picture of 'the masher'. I'm going to buy the next one in this new series.

The Football Machine 16 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my son who is eight years old and an absolute football fanatic. He really enjoyed the book and was able to read it by himself. It is very well written with plenty of humour and the illustrations are excellent. As a family we thoroughly enjoyed it. Would highly recommend it.

Lots of mistakes... 8 May 2012
A Kid's Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This review was written by an eight year old boy.

I liked the story, but it had too many mistakes. It is easy to read, but I kept going to my teachers to show them the mistakes.

Here are some I found...

"The Team aren't very good are they?"
Something Strange. Something very Strange. (these are not sentences)
The team were not impressed.
The team were good.

Also I don't understand how the author used commas.

Good things:
I liked the drawings. It was fun to read.
Bad things:
Author's mistakes
