Product Description

Review

Marber's credentials are as a nutritionist who has battled with his own weight, as head of The Food Doctor Clinic in Notting Hill, whose clients are referred by doctors and gastroenterologists, and as broadcasting guest and author of various Food Doctor books. His diet aims for weight loss coupled with good digestive health via lean proteins, healthy fats, fibre and some complex carbohydrates. He prescribes a meatless, light diet for seven days and then a long-term eating plan with 10 principles, such as always eating breakfast, and following his programme at least 80 per cent of the time. It's difficult for anyone else to challenge the market when Dr Atkins and similar diets have such an effective hold, but this book benefits from the enticing colour photos and nutritional sense.

Product Description

The food doctor diet is refreshingly simple: a seven-day diet programme for a one-week kick-start to a new approach to healthy eating; 10 simple food doctor principles on the practical knowledge needed to make informed choices; an easy-to-follow eating plan for life with food comparisons, menu options and motivational tips; and specially devised recipes that apply the theory to create flavoursome, nutritious meals.

I LOVE THIS BOOK! I chose it initially because (a) I wanted to lose weight; (b) the prospect of WeightWatchers was too depressing for words; and (c) I was very aware that I had to overhaul my eating habits completely. Having looked at the first day's menu on the FD website, I decided it was feasible and a healthy way to go about it. The first week is trying, but the book contains all the encouragement and information you need to stick at it and, for once, be informed about the food choices you make every day. And above all, Marber writes in a completely unpatronising, jargon-free way, which makes the concepts easy to grasp.

Nearly a year, 5 stone and almost half a dozen dress sizes later, I still regularly dip into the book for recipes and inspiration. If you're really serious about changing your life, BUY THIS BOOK.

At last! 16 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
Finally someone has taken the diet "bull by the horns" and begun to unravel the secret to successful eating. I say that because rather than concentrate on how to lose a certain amount of weight in a certain time frame, it concentrates on how to change the way we think about eating, encouraging healthy eating without feeling that we are missing out on anything. I would see the book more as a "life guide" rather than a quick fix. I would highly recommend the book to anyone who is serious about changing their eating habits for life and not only those who are trying to shed a few pounds. Who really wants to count calories every time they eat or drink something anyway?
Admittedly, there are thousands of diet books available on the market but this one really does stand out from the crowd.

Healthy and effective 18 Jan 2004
Format:Paperback
I am currently studying nutrition and am thrilled with this plan. Its healthy and has no side effects and IT WORKS. I dont need to lose much weight but my wife has done the seven day starter diet and lost just under half a stone. She is trying to incorporate the various principles now, and she loves it.

Its easy to read, easy to follow and comforting to know that the writer seems to really understand the problems people face with sensible weight loss.
