I wanted to get a book on Portuguese food after a holiday in Lisbon where I enjoyed the food very much. Looked at a few different ones and settled on this. The format is good and has lots of photos. I also have the impression that it is more than just a souvenir recipe book. The recipes included are not too technical, perhaps adapted for non-Portuguese users. I have tried a number of the dishes and they have worked well every time. If I get the chance to go to Portugal again and get to know its food more, I might look for another, more in depth, book. But for the time being, this will do very nicely.

I bought this book to offer as a gift and being portuguese, of course knowing this cuisine, I was afraid that the book was like many others in the market a bit out of the mark.
What a good suprise I got, it starts with a clear introduction to the portuguese culture related to the food and wines offering a good explanation on the importance of food to portuguese people. Also I found that the dishs come with very simple recipes allowing first time cookers to this cuisine to have a easy life trying this dishs (include appetisers, soup, fish, meat and deserts).
Also high note to the end of the book where you get information of suppliers in different countries (england included) to the several ingredients needed to cook the dishs.
It's not a 5 star book because it lacks probably the 5 most famous portuguese dishs in the portuguese culture (Feijoana transmontana; Cozido à Portuguesa, Bacalhau à brás; Arroz de pato; Pasteis de Belém). There are of course other dishs that are missing in this book, but I understand that the portuguese cuisine is so vast that would be impossible so fit it all in one book, that's why there is encyclopedias with recipes of portuguesse food, but this dishs that I mencioned where without any doubt a big lost not being there, even more after seeing others less important being in this book.

Amazing Portuguese Book
