Product Description

All episodes from the second season of the American drama about a former FBI agent trying to track down a serial killer and his cult of like-minded criminals. Having recovered from the wound he sustained a year before at the end of the first season, Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) is called in by the FBI to help them catch serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy), who, previously presumed dead, is now thought to be very much alive. Ryan decides to start his own investigation outwith the FBI and is assisted by his niece Max (Jessica Stroup). The episodes are: 'Resurrection', 'For Joe', 'Trust Me', 'Family Affair', 'Reflection', 'Fly Away', 'Sacrifice', 'The Messenger', 'Unmasked', 'Teacher's Pet', 'Freedom', 'Betrayal', 'The Reaping', 'Silence' and 'Forgive'.

Synopsis

Golden Globe winner and Emmy® nominee Kevin Bacon and UK's James Purefoy (Rome) star in this hit psychological thriller from Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Scream). Heading into its intense, spellbinding second season, the show catches up with a healthy and healed Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) a year after the tragic events of last season. Following a horrific new murder spree, the FBI calls on Ryan and Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) to speak with the lone survivor, Lily Gray (Connie Nielsen), in order to help them solve the case. Having worked tirelessly to rehabilitate his life, Ryan is reluctant to re-engage with the FBI. Instead, he proceeds with his own investigation behind closed doors, and finds a valuable ally in his niece, Max Hardy (Jessica Stroup), an NYPD cop working in the Intel Division. Throughout the season, Ryan will cross paths with several complicated individuals, including Mandy Lang (Tiffany Boone) and the enigmatic Luke (Sam Underwood), which furthers his suspicion that Joe Carroll's (James Purefoy) reign of terror is far from over.

SEASON TWO - (The review outlines the flow)
One year has passed since 'Joe Carrol' (James Purefoy) is believed t have died in the explosion
at the lighthouse, dental records had confirmed it.
'Ryan Hardy' (Kevin Bacon) and his wife 'Claire' were attacked in their home,'Claire' died at nd Hospital.
Ryan' has slowly rebuilt his life away from the F.B.I. and now lectures on crime.
When a number of passengers on a N.Y.subway rail carriage are killed by men wearing 'Joe Carrol'
masks the F.B.I. seek out 'Ryan' and former partner 'Mike Weston' (Shawn Ashmore) too see if they may
be of help as the deaths mark one year since 'Carrol's' supposed death, it looks like related cult killings
or could it be copy-cat, the one survivor from the carriage 'Lily Gray'(Connie Nielsen) will remain at
risk from the cult.
Could it really be that 'Carrol' lives, have the sadistic cult risen from the ashes ?
'Mike Weston' still working with the F.B.I is very much involved in the investigation, can former agent
'Ryan' really ignore what's going on.
Is cult leader alive and pulling the stings and ordering the killings, former foot soldier 'Emma'(Valorie
Hill) is beginning to wonder what's going on hearing the News-Reports.
'Ryan's' niece NYPD cop 'Max Hardy' (Jessica Stroup) is fast becoming involved with her uncles private
need to get questions answered.
The first series was brilliant, this has started with the same intensity, 'James Purefoy' as cult-leader
'Joe Carrol' a master-stroke, perfect casting.

I was hooked on Season One, inextricably entangled in Season two - now all we need is a DVD set for S3 and, of course, some brave bunch to compile and release a (single/double...?), CD of ALL the excellent tunes that put the cherry on top of this superb series... Yes, I know most of the individual tracks ("Stand by Me" makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end...!!!), are downloadable, free, on YouTube - but I'd like 'em all in one compilation. And it can always be added to if they keep the same musical director on for season 3...Please...?
Come on amazon - get your act together, invest a small fraction of the millions you make from ripping off us poor overseas customers on outrageous and extortionate shipping fees, put your own label together, add all these excellent tracks to your first amazonian music release - and make even more millions from sales...! It's a win-win no-brainer that even Jeff Bezos cannot ignore - even though he usually treats all his amazon customers with complete indifference, but that's another story...
Finally, apologies for including a rant against amazonian avarice in what is intended as a five-star review of "The Following" - and in that regard, my only complaint is that there are not more stars to award...!

If you recall adverts for products such as the VW Golf that claim that the new version tops the older model, then this could be said of Season 2 of The Following in my opinion.
Serial killer Joe Carroll is still alive and kicking and is motivating groups of would-be killers to perform acts of outrage often with the aim of taking revenge against Ryan Hardy for originally capturing him and 'stealing' his ex-wife.
James Purefoy and Kevin Bacon continue their central roles respectively and are again the backbone of the 2nd season;as previously whatever faults there were in season 1 were overshadowed by their commanding performances, and this season gives them more depth as the story progresses.
Connie Nielsen (of Gladiator (2000) - Two Disc Set [DVD] fame)is the new love interest in Bacons life as he tries to settle into his new life away from the FBI,but never far away are the machinations of Purefoy's serial killer and his following.
It's more of the same, with some of the solid characters of the previous season giving equally pertinent support.
If you found season 1 bland and silly don't bother;some people did. There is more of the same here, with 'followers' comming out of the woodwork when you least expect it which to me added to the plot.
In conclusion I think this is an excellent follow up and adds to the 1st season if you are desperate for more.

i really enjoyed season 1; it took me two or three episodes to crack season 2 as some of the new characters and apparent gaps in the storyline were difficult to follow at first (for me at least). However, by episode 3 it all clicked back into place. This show is high on twist factor, if you can imagine a twist within a twist within a twist, you'd be nearly there...! That being the case the twists do at times push the boundaries of believable, but I think there's a tongue in cheek aspect to the storyline that makes it work. All in all good fun, if you can persevere through the confusion of the first couple of episodes...
