An excellent anthology of the sort of stories which I remember my old Grandad telling me about his early life at the turn of the 19th/20th century - "we was playing tip-cat when . . ." and collated in a scholarly manner, though I found the index not to be as detailed as it might have been. The time period covered reaches back to medieval times or even further but appears to take most inspiration from the 19th and 20th centuries, which was possibly still in the memory span of various contributors.
A copy of this book should be in every school in Staffordshire.
