Review for the WALKER paperback edition/2008.

Measuring in around 24.5 cm x 25.75 cm, this unusual book has silhouettes framing the paperback covers which open to 24 thick pages. A line or two of good sized white text on the black background enhances 'the mystery', with an added dimension of rhyme.

A HUGE hit this rather different book, which regularly gets chosen for our end of session read-along corner with even the youngest of listeners always eager to attempt to join in with the regular repeat element:-

'What can this be in the foggy, foggy, forest?'

The question prompts a guessing game as to what the simple black and grey silhouettes are that lurk in the shadows of the foggy forest and that all important enthusiasm to turn the page to find out - revealed - in colour!
In the depths of the pages, we find some familiar fairytale characters acting off their usual script, along with something totally different like the witch with the motorised broom and `the ogre doing yoga', the latter being a bit of a tongue-twister for some!

The seemingly simple dark artwork leads to a number of extension opportunities including general discussion about what else is in each picture and simple counting games for the youngest participants, and......of course.....the colourful drawings add a completely new dimension!

A breath of fresh air!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book and good for the little ones too 13 Feb 2010
We borrowed this book from the library, and my one-year old loves it so much that I had to buy it. As with all Nick Sharratt's books, it's creatively drawn and has enough in it to maintain the adult reader's interest as much as the child's. It's probably the only one of our baby books that has actual pages and the tracing paper stylee means that it takes some effort to tear. I look forward to buying more of Sharratt's books as my daughter gets older.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foggy Foggy Forest 8 Oct 2009
Such a fun book- all the fairy tale characters doing interesting things and all in jolly rhyme. Red Riding Hood has now branched out into selling ice creams!

4.0 out of 5 stars Foggy Foggy Forest (Book) 7 Aug 2009
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
A really beautiful and unusual younger children's book in that, the paper can't be torn (almost like a tracing paper type quality) and the child then guesses what the fun black and white silhouette images on each page are. As you turn the page, all is revealed in colour. It's an amazingly different style of book which our young grandchildren adore.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, lovely concept 24 July 2009
Again Nick Sharratt has produced a fab book, the rhymes are lovely, my favourite 'Who's this in the Foggy Foggy Forrest? An ogre doing Yoga'. Brill book, had to tape a couple of pages as they chido tear with an over enthusiastic toddler.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super ideas, great illustrations. 1 Mar 2009
I recently bought this book for my daughter who is nearly three. She really adores it and wants to hear it every night before bed.The ideas are a bit wacky but great fun and the illustrations of the shadows in the forest keep the reader intrigued! Look out for Cinderella and Snow White in a water pistol fight! Super stuff!

We took this out of the library in the hardback version which has transparent papers with silhouettes. The paperback is just opaque printed pages to give a similar effect. Had this been made obvious from the product description I would have paid the extra for the hardback.

5.0 out of 5 stars Foggy fun 2 Nov 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I'd recommend this book for a 2-4 year old, or older really. It'd be particularly successful with children who know their fairy tales, as they will then be able to make good guesses as to who's hiding in the foggy foggy forest.
