Format:Paperback
Review for the WALKER paperback edition/2008.

Measuring in around 24.5 cm x 25.75 cm, this unusual book has silhouettes framing the paperback covers which open to 24 thick pages. A line or two of good sized white text on the black background enhances 'the mystery', with an added dimension of rhyme.

A HUGE hit this rather different book, which regularly gets chosen for our end of session read-along corner with even the youngest of listeners always eager to attempt to join in with the regular repeat element:-

'What can this be in the foggy, foggy, forest?'

The question prompts a guessing game as to what the simple black and grey silhouettes are that lurk in the shadows of the foggy forest and that all important enthusiasm to turn the page to find out - revealed - in colour!
In the depths of the pages, we find some familiar fairytale characters acting off their usual script, along with something totally different like the witch with the motorised broom and `the ogre doing yoga', the latter being a bit of a tongue-twister for some!

The seemingly simple dark artwork leads to a number of extension opportunities including general discussion about what else is in each picture and simple counting games for the youngest participants, and......of course.....the colourful drawings add a completely new dimension!

A breath of fresh air!

We borrowed this book from the library, and my one-year old loves it so much that I had to buy it. As with all Nick Sharratt's books, it's creatively drawn and has enough in it to maintain the adult reader's interest as much as the child's. It's probably the only one of our baby books that has actual pages and the tracing paper stylee means that it takes some effort to tear. I look forward to buying more of Sharratt's books as my daughter gets older.

Such a fun book- all the fairy tale characters doing interesting things and all in jolly rhyme. Red Riding Hood has now branched out into selling ice creams!

Visually stunning book!
A gorgeous book - an incredibly clever concept. My 4 year old son absolutely loves the anticipation of working out who is next as the pages turn. Odd ending, but nonetheless a joy!

Our children love it
This book captures the imagination of the children. It led to them reading by torch light then making their own shadow images.
