4.0 out of 5 stars NOTES & CONTENTS: 28 Aug 2008
Running Time Approx: 79 minutes - Language: English - Subtitles: None listed - MONOCHROME: (Black & White)- Year of production 1943
As Hitler's Blitzkrieg sweeps across the Low Countries in early 1940, a squadron of Belgian pilots take temporary shelter with their aircraft on a Flemish Farm.
Here, farmer's daughter Trescha tends the wounded pilot Matagne and the two fall in love. When the decision comes to evacuate to RAF bases in England, Matagne secretly buries the Regimental Flag rather than destroy it as ordered. As the time comes to leave, Matagne has to be forced to go and leave his beloved Trescha.
Now safe in England, he dreams of retrieving the Regimental Flag from underneath the noses of the invading Germans but dies before he can attempt it. Now it is up to his best friend Duclos to return to Occupied Belgium and rescue the flag. With a distinguished cast that includes Clifford Evans, Clive Brooke, Jane Baxter and Irene Handl, this stunning 1943 British thriller raised the morale in the nation's cinemas and paid
tribute to all those from Europe who had joined in the defence of Britain.
Poignantly conveys the pain of war., 18 May 2000
User Comment by: Neil-117 from Australia
Made during the second world war when people were really suffering the pain (not just remembering it), this low budget simple tale of high ideals and patriotism is more powerful than many a later battlefield re-enactment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Saving the Colours 10 Nov 2011
Saving the Colours.

The flemish Farm dvd
Obviously made during austerity times so lots of staged background
Nevertheless a good story of wartime courage supported[unusually]by the music of Ralph
Vaughan Williams..
Probably more interesting as an historic piece of work.
No doubt it would lift the spirits of a suffering people in wartime

3.0 out of 5 stars The Flemish Farm 30 April 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
A wartime film about a Belgium Squadron. Purchased for research reasons as the Squadron who did the flying was No. 193 Squadron, who were based at RAF Harrowbeer, in Devon. Film itself is a fairly average wartime presentation. See IMDB for a full synopsis if you want to know more.
