Product Description

A sweeping Lincolnshire family saga spanning two world wars and three generations of women, brought together and driven apart on the land they love.

Plough the Furrow begins in 1910. Esther Everatt, shunned by her family and desperate for work and a place to say, finds her way to Sam Brumby’s farm. Able to work alongside any man, she earns old Sam’s grudging respect. Prepared to risk everything to secure her future, Esther marries a local farmhand. But as war arrives she comes to understand that only the truest of love can survive the passing of the seasons.

Sow the Seed follows the story of Kate, Esther’s daughter. Kate is determined to marry her childhood sweetheart, Danny. But when she reaches eighteen Kate is told the bitter truth of her family’s past and the reasons why marriage to Danny can never happen. Heart-broken Kate witnesses many things amidst the chaos and destruction of WWII, which finally lead her to experience a love that allows her to leave the past behind.

Reap the Harvest is set in the aftermath of the disastrous Lincolnshire floods of 1953. Kate’s daughter Ella finds herself compelled to live at Brumby’s Farm with her grandmother, Esther. This story of love, war, secrets and tragedy seems destined to repeat itself in heartache before coming full circle and bringing this glorious trilogy to a close.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lucky Find 11 Jan 2013
By Paulus

I must thank my wife for finding this excellent trilogy. Actually she managed to get it much cheaper than it is being offered at the moment but I still think it's worth it. The story starts in the early part of the 1900's and follows three generations of two families through two world wars and up till around the 1970's. Each book really follows one generation but many of the characters remain throughout. Set mainly in rural Lincolnshire the story is complex and meaty enough to make it a really good read - certainly I went straight through from one book to the next without a break and really found it difficult to put down. Some of it is enlightening and thought provoking too, as you follow changing attitudes, particularly towards women and illegitimacy. It also describes the difficulties of farming and rural life in those earlier times. It's not all sweetness and light and there are some really sad moments along with the highs but it does end reasonably happily. The Kindle version is excellent with virtually no typos. One piece of advice - at the end of each book is the same epilogue, presumably in case the reader only reads the first book; DON'T read it until the end of book three as it actually gives away some information you are better discovering later.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, wished it would never end. 13 Jan 2013

Fabulous story which I didn't want to end, the fact it was a trilogy was great because as soon as you finished the first book you just couldn't wait to read the next. I love Margaret Dickinson' s books but this was by far the best yet. I'm not sure what to do with myself now as I really will miss all the characters!!

I chose this tittle simply because I wanted to try out my new kindle. However, I really enjoyed it because you were able to follow the characters lives and to know what happened to them. I felt i was actually there in Lincolnshire. I shall be looking for more M.D. books for my kindle
