Book Description

Albia grows colder every day. A ten year warning is issued. Ten years until the world ends. Many people accept their fate with good grace, many more seek the solace of oblivion.

Henry Birkett is being Watched. His offering to The Forgiveness has been accepted, but is his fate simply to die, or does another, more gruesome destiny await?

This is a prelude to The Infernal Odyssey series, soon to be published.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great little find 22 Aug. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved the title of this and decided to give it a try. Very glad I did. It's an atmospheric first-person narrative in the voice of a member of 'The Forgiveness' an organisation who offer 'clean deaths' to people afraid of the encroaching 'Big Freeze.' But the organisation has a secret motive too which becomes clear. There is a beautiful flavour of Victorian Gothic, and as you would expect from the title, a delicious hint of melodrama, but the execution is such that it works. My one criticism picks up on what other reviewers have said - I too would have happily read on, in fact it felt like this story could actually just be a taster/extract of something longer? If so, that's ultimately no bad thing because I would very much like to read more about this dystopian world. More!
