This is a classic book (1965) about camera rules in cinematography. You can learn in this book all about axis and 180-degree rule. A lot of photos makes easy to understand all. But this is not a book about direction techniques. If you are interested in camera techniques, you must read this book, but also you must read other books about direction, montage, script etc... This is indispensable but not enough.

These books are very interesting about direction: "Film Directing Fundamentals" by Nicholas Proferes, "Cinematic Storytelling" by Jennifer Van Sijll and "Hichcock" by Francois Truffaut (an absolute classic). About Script I recommend: "The Writer's Journey" by Christopher Vogler, "The Art Of Dramatic Writing" by Lajos Egri, "The Anatomy Of Story" by John Truby and "Writing your screenplay" by Cynthia Whitcomb.

The Five C's of Cinematography: Motion Pictures Filming Techniques

This is an excellent book for cinema/film studies students. Every line and paragraph teaches you something new every-time you read the book. In fact one would keep discovering different approaches through repeated reading. Extensive information about film language i.e. different camera angles, continuity, composition, cutting and lots more makes this a fascinating and easy read. This bundle of priceless knowledge is surely a must-buy and should be treasured through the ages.

I had heard a bit about this book froma few websites about books on film, and by all accounts it was something to get. When you see the awesome statments such as 'one of the three most important books on the subject' it fils you with both anxiety to read it but also a sense of it never living up to the hype.

Anyway...it is a good book, well wotrht the measly £15 you'll spend on it, but since it was written in a different era of cinema it just seems a little obvious. Having said that it does deal with the standard cinematic procedures, the ones that you MUST know. You need to read it if you are nterested in film or particularly cinematography.
