This is a wonderful book detailing the history of fishing out of the village of Port Isaac in North Cornwall, and of the great men, strong personalities and peerless characters one and all who made the fishing industry of Port Isaac Bay what it was. They were men of great skill, born to go down to the sea in small boats and "occupy their business upon its great waters". The book, written by a local man with a wealth of experience in the local fishing industry, provides much information on the history and nature of the fishing boats and the unique paraphernalia in use, fishing techniques, potting for shellfish and additionally much local lore, all set out to both instruct and entertain. Printed on high quality paper, one of the many fine aspects of this book is the wealth of archive photographs which it contains to illustrate and complement the text. The characters who appear in its pages have been given a fitting tribute to preserve their inspiring memory. Anyone who has an interest in the North Cornish heritage, local history, fishing and matters relating to Port Isaac will appreciate this book very much. I recommend it highly.
