Product Description

Celebrated Argentine director Lucia Puenzo (XXY) returns with a gripping tale of forbidden lesbian romance and a crime heist gone awry. Boasting beautiful cinematography and electrifying performances from its two female leads, The Fish Child is a film festival favourite that will take you on a journey you won't ever forget.

Lala, a teenager from the most exclusive suburban neighborhood in Argentina is in love with the Guayi, the 20-year-old Payaguayan maid working at her place. They dream of living together in Paraguay, at the shores of lake Ypoá. Robbing every purse and wallet in the house to fulfill their dream, hiding the money in a shoe box. But when the box is full, it bursts, fueled by desire, jealousy and rage. This is the starting point that spurs the escape through the highway that connects the North of Buenos Aires with Paraguay. While Lala waits to be reunited with her lover in Ypoá by reconstructing her past (the mystery surrounding her pregnancy and the legend of a fish child who guides the drowned to the bottom of the lake), the Guayi is detained in a minors institute in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. She turns out to be hiding a crime from long ago.

Special Features: Behind the Scenes, Picture Gallery.

El nino pez 1 Feb 2011
By Alan D
Format:DVD
Ines Efron, who is probably best-known for her starring role as a hermaphrodite in XXY, gives another excellent performance in this crime thriller. The film's director, Lucia Puenzo, was also the director of XXY. Efron's character is a young woman from a wealthy background, who is in love with the family's maid (a very good performance by Mariela Vitale).
A lot of the story is told in flashback, making it slightly difficult to follow at times; and Efron's character is self-indulgent and not particularly likeable. But the plot is gripping and this is a film which I would want to watch more than once.

Really enjoyed this, although I would not call it a thriller . From the title I had worried that it might be a little in the magic realism style , but far from it . The images of argentina reminded me of the marvelous Bonbon. If you enjoyed XXY then this is definately for you . Once again Ines Efron [ loved the scene when she finally cuts her hair] is excellent . Stayed up past midnight on a work night just to see what would happen to both girls . A little gem .

Did not know what to expect throughout the film, that's what made it interesting, took some time to figure out the relationship that made it interesting.
