More About the Author

I've been writing for many years: comedy for radio, TV and books and more recently non-fiction history books.

The Battle of Britain: A Miscellany will be published in summer 2015 to mark the battle's 70th anniversary.

The Second World War: A Miscellany was published in August 2014 by Summersdale and is a companion to the The First World War: A Miscellany. Both tell the story of their respective wars through facts, quotes and other material.

If History Was Scottish was published by Luath Press and looks at world history through a comedic Caledonian perspective. If you've ever wondered what Barack Obama would say if Scottish, this is the book for you.

The Little Book of Aviation is a miscellany of all things aviation and if you're interested in flight you're guaranteed to discover things you never knew.

The Glasgow Book of Days was published in January 2013. It features events from the dear green city's past - one or more for each day of the year.

Chronologia: History by the Minute was published in August 2012 by The History Press. It presents moments of history through the time of day they took place, to make a virtual day featuring events such as 911, JFK's assassination, Roswell's 'UFO', Charles I's execution, Titanic, Hindenburg, man landing on the moon amongst many more.

I've also co-written two other books, 'I See Modern Britain' and 'I See Xmas', which are packed full of observations on modern life which came out in 2008.

A book which does just what it says on the cover - an assortment of mostly interesting facts about WW1. Not the longest book I have ever read so not fantastic value for money but nonetheless I enjoyed reading it and am pleased I bought it.

Excellent read, great anecdotes, full of amazing facts, well researched and read like a book QI would do about the war.
It had an unfussy, informal style, the type of book you can pick up and delve into at any time.
I actually bought this for my brother and it was so enjoyable I'm keeping it.
I will also be buying the other one about WW2.
Worth every penny and every star.

After taking some students on a residential to the Somme and Arras, I wanted to learn more about the First World War. This book is perfect. It has plenty of key information and is delivered in a concise way.

Sure there are are more detailed accounts of the conflict but if you have a passing interest or are just starting out on a more detailed interest, this is a perfect book.

Succinct and pertinent facts and details that help to understand the war. More detailed maps would help.
