My title above says all. As the book title indicates, this is a great book for family members who have someone suffering from psychosis, and want to have a basic understanding of this illness. I find this book to be a great introductory overview for somebody who has not much background in psychology or no understanding of psychosis (such as myself). This book is very well organized to give a helicopter-view understanding of the overall aspects regarding this illness, starting from clear definition of psychosis, typical symptoms, types of medications available (including amount of starting dosage and effective dosage), early warning signs, importance of sticking with treatment, approaches that medical professionals take, aspect on stigma, advices for family members to look for, etc.
It's written in a very easy to understand regular English. Medical terminology is minimal. Each chapter is relatively short (not much more than 10+ pages) but clearly focused on specific topic with sufficient level of discussion and clear summary at the end of each chapter. Some tricky terminologies are clearly explained (e.g. "positive" and "negative" symptoms, which are *not* what these words sound to imply in first impression).
Given the target audience of this book, this is clearly a wrong book for medical professionals and/or students studying psychology as the content is in high-level and those people would probably all know what's written in this book already. But again, this is a very good book for clueless family members who wants to understand what's going on with the loved ones. I haven't found much negative aspect of this book. I'd highly recommend this book for people who wants to have a good overall understanding of this illness to be prepared what's ahead.
