Worthwhile 1 Dec. 2014
By STAN - Published on Amazon.com
What is the real story and date of the creation of the Septuagint? We do not know. We do know it is from about +200 years BC ( I reject BCE). We also know that it had wide use outside Palestine and especially in Alexandria and that it was the version of Jewish scripture used by the NT writers.

The legend and referents to it are cited here. All around the scholarship is very good.

A most interesting point though is that at the time of Christ, There was no Jewish canon. Scripture was still amidst its process of dynamic development. The Christ event seems to have forced the matter on both fronts ( Jewish and Christian), though separated by some years. The Individual canonization processes putting the final theological redactions in place. (I avoid the word "spin")

An interesting and worthwhile little read.

Well worth a read! 26 May 2014

In depth treatment of the early Church and the Septuagint and later pressure to adopt the Hebrew Scriptures. Informative about Jerome and his relationship with Church contempories.

Disapointed in untranslated footnotes, and minimal treatment of the relationship between the Septuagint and Dead Sea Scrolls.
