Product Description
The concluding volume in the exciting new series, The Dragon Mage – and the eleventh in the bestselling Deverry Cycle.
The Fire Dragon tells two separate stories: one set in the “present” of 1117, and one set in the past, the era of the Civil Wars. In the present, Raena’s trouble-making in Cerr Cawnen leads to terrible death and destruction but may ultimately succeed in offering the final working-out of Rhodry’s Wyrd. In the past, Nevyn and Lilli attempt to solve the riddle of the curse tablet, but the price will be high.
In this, the eleventh volume in the Deverry cycle and third of the Dragon Mage series, storylines begun in Dawnspell: The Bristling Wood, A Time of Exile and The Black Raven – both the ‘present’ of 1117 and the past – will reach their triumphant and spellbinding conclusion. But there will be more Deverry books to unravel the situation that climaxes The Fire Dragon…
From the Author
This book has been a long time coming, I know, and had I been in control of the process, I would apologize. As it is, I can only say that the Deverry books are finished when -they- want to be, not me. But tis done now, and in this volume you will finally get to see Rhodry Maelwaedd's mysterious Wyrd come upon him. I hope you all enjoy the book! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
From the Back Cover
Ancient hatreds, ancient wrongs – stronger than dwarven steel, their chains bind together Rhodry Maelwaedd, the mad beserker, and his blood-sworn enemy, Raena, shape-changer and prophet of a new goddess come into the world. Both have glimpsed the great secret of the dweomer, that each soul leads many lives. Neither understands what they have seen.
They forged their chain of hatred during Deverry's civil wars, when they lived as Maddyn the bard and Lady Merodda, a dabbler in poisons and forbidden magicks. The evil that Merodda worked then claimed lives that Maddyn held dear. Not even the mighty dweomermaster Nevyn and his apprentice, Merodda's daughter Lili, could undo the harm she worked or prevent Maddyn from swearing a vengence-vow that smouldered down the centuries.
Now Rhodry and Raena are to meet again in the northern borderlands, far from the settled kingdom of Deverry. It is here that the blood-feud threatens to destroy the peaceful city of Cerr Cawnen. The elven dwoemermaster Dallandra must summon every power and ally at her disposal to break the chains of their Wyrd and save thousands of innocent lives.
